Odallus: The Dark Call

Odallus: The Dark Call is a pretty great dark fantasy 2D action platforming Metroidvania. The graphics, controls, music, sound effects and cutscenes are exactly like what you'd see in an NES game from the early 90's, JoyMasher have nailed the execution perfectly. It's Ghouls 'n' Ghosts crossed with Castlevania and the art design and monsters are clearly inspired by Berserk. The gameplay is fun, addictive and difficult but not quite as frustrating to become "NES hard". It's always clear where you're supposed to go next and once you try and die to a boss a few times you will beat them without too much trouble. I did find the final boss to be very hard and annoying though but i am fat and old. Definitely worth it if you like retro games but with a modern level of polish.

Really fun game, reminsicent of Berzerk, Castlevania and edgy 90s megadrive games in general. Really well designed levels, with a surpising amount of satisfaction going back and redoing levels to unlock new areas as you gain more abilities.

Good and fun retro game! Not too hard, has good checkpoints, and not so hidden secrets. Definitely check it out, and the other games from JoyMasher - Oniken and Blazing Chrome! :D

You know if you'll like this kind of game or not. If it looks like you'll like it, you will. It's a good retro SNES/Genesis style platformer action game, had a lot of fun.

I'm not very good at these types of games, but I certainly used to like them back in the early 90s. This one takes inspiration from the NES-era Castlevania titles, and the 16-bit Ghosts 'n Goblins/Demon's Crest/Metroidvania type of adventures and mechanics. It's not as easy as some reviewers have noted, but slightly on the difficult side, albeit not super unforgiving as the old classics. I liked almost everything about this one.
