Good strategy game
I am someone who played the Empire games in the 90's, feeling nostalgic. This just feels... incomplete. The UI is clunky, it would be nice to highlight an area and wake the units up. No indication of remaining strength in naval units. The pathfinding is worse than I remember. I'd recommend the DOSBOX version
It's not a little buggy, it's unplayable buggy. Units disappear, transports can't hold units. In no way is this a clone of the 1980's Walter Bright masterpiece-at-the-time. Nor worth it, even if free.
I prefer games I can play to kill a quick hour or two. So I would happily play this game if I could limit the map size to 50x50. The default is 100x100. There's an option to change this but the option doesn't work. :-( When you give a number of rows less than 100 it defaults back to 100. And when you change the number of columns at all it changes to 4000! Update: I used the editor to create a 50x50 map. But only one of my cities will build an army. The rest say they will, but nothing happens. :-(
I purchased this game in a spirit of eager nostalgia. I remember playing WAY too many hours of Empire on my old Amiga computer back in 1987. The current version is an effectively unplayable bug ridden disgrace. It would be fine as a beta version in a debugging phase. Needs MASSIVE debugging to be worth anything. Edit: Grammer
If you have every played the original Empire game, this game is not it! I was hoping it was a faithful update/copy. But it is not. I got bored after no time. Sorry I owned and played the original game in the 1980s/1990s.
