I’ve finished Eternal Edge on Steam, and honestly I have mixed feelings about it. The game feels very buggy overall, and at times it comes across as something that was made quite simply without a lot of polish or care. One of the most frustrating parts is the grindy achievements — completing them feels more like a chore than a rewarding experience, and it can be really exhausting. That said, I can still see the potential here. The RPG + Zelda-style direction is actually interesting, and with more time, effort, and polish, this could have turned into something really enjoyable. I hope the developers continue working in this style, but with fewer bugs and more refinement in the future. There’s definitely a good idea underneath all the issues.
“Basically, run.” ~The Doctor
*SIGH* OK, let's start by looking at the screenshots. What do we see here? Yep. Eternal Edge is an obvious Zelda rip-off with its super-deformed (chibi) design coming directly from the Nintendo DS remakes of the early Final Fantasy titles. Even the logo here is an obvious Final Fantasy rip-off, so... yeah. Do I have a problem with that? Kinda, yeah. I mean, this here is an indie game. Means that its makers were free to express themselves any way they wanted. Yet they've decided to mindlessly copy things from popular AAA titles instead. Yes, it's pathetic. But at the exact same time... I mean, come on. We all want something like this sometimes. Not a rip-off, of course, since nobody in their right mind wants Sense of Right Alliance instead of the latest Hasbro set, but a cute, casual game with, like, zero ambition. Something that lets you lean back and relax. That's exactly what Eternal Edge promised. But instead, it “kicked me in the bollocks and spat on me when I was down” like a John f*cking Constantine. So... let's talk 'bout that. Like I said, Eternal …
a very miserable time.
i bought the game for like 3 bucks, and if i could get them back i probably would. to start with, the game does the cliché of making you very powerful, having you die in a cutscene, and then dropping you off at the start of your journey. unfortunately for you, once you've played that little snippet, you've played the whole game. everything from after this point is the same, but now you have to whittle down health bars. there is a leveling system, but it serves little purpose aside from making the also leveled weapons have a higher potential level. there aren't many different enemy types, and just as few weapon types. there are also shields!! which brings me to my biggest grievance — sound design!!
Say goodbye to your ears.
this game is VERY LOUD. i had the sliders turned most of the way down and even then, it didn't matter much. if it wanted a noise to be loud, it was gonna break your eardrums. sounds can also layer on top of each other, making them much louder as a result. there aren't many opportunities for this to happen, what with a lack of noise from most creatures and npcs, but just about every entity has a shield. in this game…

Tries to be Zelda. Fails miserably.

Decent indie game. Buggy at times but tolerable for me.

it's got a lot of cool things that are cool and it's awesome to see something like this made by an indie team. So obviously this has a lot of issues, issues I couldn't get past. Like ♥♥♥♥ the camera does not work, any input will do an instant set amount of movement, so there's no sensitivity to how much you push the stick and no deadzone range either, so if I shake my controller a bit it can mistake that for input. It was so intolerable I just put up with moving the stick to the direction I needed to go, peripheral vision be damned. it's probably the biggest reason I put this down, followed by a poorly done story, not necessarily an actually bad story, but poorly done. Then there's the actual combat, it's like if you had zelda lock on and basic attack combo, but there's no spin attack, no jumping alterations for the lock on, the little depth it had is just not there and it's especially not helped by how slippery it feels while the dodge roll feels like it sticks you to the ground. This does have top down classic zelda dungeons, that was really cool to find out, but it ended up just being locking me into a room, kill all the basic enemies by spamming x, move to next area, repea…
