Explosive Jake is an unabashed, lazy ripoff of Bomberman (Copyright Hudson Soft, 1983). Many lazy "amateur" developers don't pay attention to their obligations under copyright law, and often steal the ideas of actual, real game developers without credit, such as the "developer" here has done. At this stage no legal action has been taken by Hudson Soft against the "developer" here, but it's never off the table, as previous copyright law cases have shown. Putting aside the unethical intellectual bankruptcy of stealing someone else's game concept for profit, this is also breaking that unwritten law of stealing other people's game ideas... you should at least try to do better than the game you're ripping off. Explosive Jake is considerably worse than Bomberman. This looks a lot like they just ripped off someone else's Bomberman tutorial/template for Unity, reskinned it, slapped a Unity screen filter asset on it, then rushed it quickly to Steam to scrounge up a few roubles. It's awful of course, not well made, not engaging, and of no real serious interest to PC gamers. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as sta…3 found this helpful
As a Bomberman fan, I had so much fun playing this game. The soundtracks are amazing, I enjoyed every single level. There were some minor issues, like the bomb not always dropping right away unless I clicked multiple times / few times not precise.. but it's okay, I personally didn't mind. Overall, It’s a solid game that kept me hooked from start to finish! if you love retro bomberman, Explosive Jake is definitely worth a try!2 found this helpful
Hard to place the explosive. It's a free move in a square platform. To place the explosive you have to position Jake very precisely in a square otherwise it won't work.2 found this helpful
It's an extremely repetitive Bomberman clone that starts out extraordinarily slow and depressing and gets acceptable about halfway through. You basically drop bombs to kill enemies and break boxes to reveal powerups, keys and doors. There is just one key and door on each stage but because you don't know where it is you have to pretty much blow up every box on the map until you find it. This is extremely tedious and only gets less annoying later because you pick up bomb upgrades that make it easier to just clear the map faster to grab the keys. While it's structured like Bomberman there are no bosses and the powerups are pretty useless aside from the one that increases speed. I didn't mind playing through it but it's absolutely nothing special.1 found this helpful
first of all, this could have been a good game, but there is so much wrong with it, it's unplayable - placing bombs (the main mechanic) is WAY too inconsistent - the game doesn't explain controls - the ear piercing sound of adjusting the setting can't be toned down - controls can't be changed1 found this helpful
Explosive Jake, developed and published by PigeonDev, is a retro-inspired top-down maze action game that clearly draws from classic bomber-style arcade design. Centered around a skeletal protagonist navigating dungeon-like environments, the game embraces straightforward mechanics, pixel-art visuals, and grid-based level layouts to deliver a compact, nostalgic experience. Rather than reinventing the formula, it commits to replicating the core loop of strategic bomb placement and environmental destruction. The primary objective in Explosive Jake is simple: clear destructible blocks, defeat enemies, locate a key, and reach the exit door to progress to the next stage. Each of the game’s 40 levels follows this structure, presenting maze-like rooms filled with breakable walls and roaming foes. Bomb placement becomes the central mechanic, requiring players to carefully consider timing and positioning to avoid getting caught in their own blast radius. Since explosions extend in straight lines across tiles, spatial awareness is essential, particularly when enemies begin moving unpredictably through narrow corridors. A notable design constraint is the early limitation of placing only one b…
