Puzzling Rune Magic
Use your fortune fragments to create magical runes on your board. These runes conduct your power to see into the future, but you have a limited number of turns and redraws to achieve your goals. As you use your powers, you’ll unlock more powerful runes and new fragments you can use!The customers' souls form different obstacles for you. Sometimes it’s about gathering energy from the board aspects, sometimes it is about revealing things hidden in the darkness.There can also be sides and aspects that aren’t visible at first glance. You may need to try again, as you learn how the board will react to your actions.The Citizens of Clearcastle
Since you'll be interacting and helping the people of Clearcastle every day as a Foreteller, here is a little about the cast of characters you’ll meet when playing Fortune Fragments. This is only a taste of what’s to come, so if you want to meet the rest, you’ll have to become a full-time Foreteller! Agatha: An old woman who happens to be your landlady. Cheery and a huge gossip, she’ll help you get settled in to your new place.Basil: An eccentric young man with a bright smile. Though he’s a bit naïve, he’s well-meaning and tries his best in everything.Leo: A curious fellow who stumbles into your shop in distress. You take him under your wing, but whether or not you trust him is up to you.Crow: Caw caw caw caw cawcaw caw caw caw. Caw cawcaw caw caw caw caw caw!Matheus: A rugged but kind man who’s having troubles at work. Seems like he needs a gentle push in the right direction.Catherine: A young woman on hard times, trying to reach out to someone who can’t speak for themselves. It’s hard to get a read on how honest she’s being.Julian: A hopeless romantic tangled in his own hangups. His dates seem pretty alright though!Amelia: Shy and kind, this young woman is being pulled in multiple directions by those around her. Help her find what path to follow.Carmen: A member of far-off nobility and trying to climb even higher up the ladder. Fortune Fragments deserves twice the reviews it has and half the bugs I imagined. Cozy on the surface, sneakily clever underneath. Lovely characterful art, a story with feels, and puzzles that make you feel smart until they humble you. I confidently went to report a "bug" more than once to keep trying and find it was a mechanic. The game was working perfectly. I was the bug. Beautiful, brainy, and highly enjoyable. Play it before everyone else pretends they discovered it first. [spoiler]I went along with every single one of Leo's revolutionary schemes and got roughly an ambiguous smirk's worth of emotional payoff. I helped overthrow a system for this man. The bare minimum was hand-holding. Devs - a romance route patch would be extremely well received in this household. [/spoiler]1 found this helpful
I ended up refunding this game. I would recommend it if you're in it only for the puzzles and not so much the story. If the story really matters to you, as with me, you'll find it frustrating. I discovered upon reaching certain chapters that it is impossible to unlock all the story choices/ content through the puzzles. I repeated the puzzles over and over, trying to unlock all the choices just because I was after the story and it really bothered me to randomly have 1 out of 3 hidden because of RNG with the puzzle pieces received, or the puzzle itself moving the colors around per turn (obnoxious), and so on. No joy.
Puzzle is very fun and my main complaint is I want more levels with gossip
I bought this game on a whim to support a Finnish team and I almost forgot to play it. But now I'm happy I gave it a chance! It feels to have a good balance between puzzles and plot. I like the challenge level and how you still don't have to be a perfectionist in this game. Don't worry about leaving some loose lines here and there! The difficulty level scales up steadily and it's satisfying to figure out good rune combos. The game does not give them to you on a plate. The rewards for better scores are additional pieces of information. You can choose to use them - or not! Your fortunate telling skills don't cover the consequences. So far the plot and puzzles feel intriguing enough to keep me playing and aiming for high scores. There are multiple plotlines to follow and they all feel interesting and different! The art is good and omg Basil is so adorable, he must be protected! My only warning is not to play this game when you're tired, it's not a game to run through with a podcast on background (at least for now, haven't tried the sandbox mode).
A lovely little gem of a VN. The puzzle element is fun, without being too much. Only the very final puzzle required me to restart a few times to get it right. The rest felt fair once you got familiar with the mechanics. The story itself is not that long (I finished it in around 5 hours). However, with so many branching paths it is well worth replaying. The game ends with a short montage showing what happens to everyone. I am looking forward to seeing in what ways I can change the outcome I got the first time.
Haven't finished the game yet, but I've liked everything I've seen so far. The story is intriguing, and the puzzles are fun and satisfying.
