FHM 3, the first version officially licensed by the NHL, and is the most “pure hockey sim” in the series. i.e. Star players' individual attributes override system inefficiencies, team structure matters far less than who’s on the ice, and management complexity is low. The core game loop is to hire and fire people, assign players to the games, sign expensive players to your team, tweak training, manage your finances, improve game results and meet hockey team owner's expectation. According to ChatGPT (I haven't fact checked it, just started the game as a newbie), you can win a Cup in FHM 3 with - an average defensive system, weak checking lines, and minimal tactical tuning. As long as you have: 2 elite forwards, 1 top defenseman, a strong goalie - let the stars carry the whole team.
