Weird setting and a weak English version turns the story into an awkward adventure through Adam's genital organs and beyond... Yeah, no mercenaries or adventurers here, just cells getting ready to join the "holy body". Your army is composed of two types of Units: 1/Commander Units are special cells with classes, gear, level ups and skills. They can hire Troops but if they are defeated, said Troops are defeated as well. 2/Troops are more like basic soldiers that can't be customized but are linked to their Commander. There's a single currency in game called G. Level up, class unlock and recruiting Troops all depend on that same resource. It feels like my brain is being slowly cooked up when it's time to spend the hard earned G. On top of that dilemma, Troops are bought with G but for a single battle, so you can't spend it all. Combat is heavily based on rock-paper-scissors classes and physical vs magical damage. Deciding what to field and where is half the fun/pain depending on how well you understand the mechanics that are either poorly explained or ignored ^^ Grinding Training missions is kind of mandatory between the ennemy levels and the amount of unlockable Classes and Tro…10 found this helpful
This is a REALLY eccentric and wacky SRPG, which I suppose makes sense -- we Langrisser fans have always been a special type of wingnut. The premise is that you want to succeed in the "Holy War" (no, FE4 fans -- not THAT Holy War) and create life. To this end, you play as the sperm cell, and are accompanied by a few other cells such as a T cell and a prostate. Your quest? To enter the "Holy Body" and fertilize the egg. It's a story like no other. It's so weird and left-field that it's bound to alienate 99% of anyone who sees this game; but then again, anyone playing this game is a diehard Langrisser fan who's so starved for more Langrisser gameplay that they're willing to stomach a premise this downright insane. I must ask Chimaki (the creator of this game): what the hell were you thinking, man? How on EARTH did you decide to come up with a game this ludicrously absurd? Setting that all aside, GeneWars has some fun gameplay. It's mostly what you'd expect from a Langrisser 1/2 clone, although there are some twists here and there. Leveling up, hiring troops, and "changing DNA" is all handled with a single currency, so if you want to play grindless, it can be challenging…3 found this helpful
I backed this game on patreon for a long while with max thing, so I am probably biast and technically i got it for freeish. (its complicated) The game is a Warsong-like game, however this one is very short, simple, with only the very core of mechanics. It is still a deep tactics game that needs a different approach although just as fun to combat. My tought is that this game is a proof of concept for a new engine that the Warsong games (after conviction which was flat out Warsong/Langriser back to back to the last pixel, but better in story and progression), while this is A LOT better in visual, sound design, animation, and game flow, controls, UI. The AI is good if you give it a fight, and even repetative farming maps somehow manages to turn out different whenever you change ANYTHING. The story... it exist in this one, the game itself short, with a HUGE difficulty spike just before the last chance you have to farm infinite resources, so a bit like FF7 Cosmo Canyion effect, but trust me you need every penny. Don't need to max out everyone, just at least someone to carry you. Progression is in the game. Characters are unique in higher levels, but start out similar on early levels, …3 found this helpful
