Gnomes vs Fairies: Greckel’s Quest (GvFGQ/GvF) is a game asking to be judged more so for its gameplay than its story, but it's still a pretty good time all around. The game follows in the vein of Spyro-esque games that rely on a loosely guided plot while prioritizing fun and engaging gameplay. In this regard GvF achieves what it set out to do while falling short in a few key moments, and I believe it's fair to orient a review around gameplay/balancing. Gnomes vs Fairies: Greckel's Quest is an indie game best compared to a 3D action platformer, but realistically anyone that grew up playing late 90s/early 2000s collectathon style games (Banjo Kazooie, Spyro, or even Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga) will have a good baseline for comparison of what feelings this game is trying to evoke. Each section of the game is segmented into 4 distinct worlds linked by 1 central hub that visually displays your progress through each. Each world further has 3 levels (with 1 shared state level between worlds) that consist of 2 separate 6-item collectathons and typically 1-2 abilities. If you like the feel of those old trashy PC games you would randomly find that ended up being fun but obviously cheap or those WTF N64 games you would rent at Blockbuster or wherever then you would like this. It really does have charm to it and isn't a waste of time. A child would definitely enjoy it. I have to many other games to get through and this isn't good enough to keep any more of my attention but it is definitely worth giving a try if it looks like something you would enjoy. Don't judge it immediately; get through a few levels then make a decision.

Nice game i really enjoyed. Great to play over a weekend (finding everything except one fairy took me ca. 10 hours and I´m a slow player). Movement and jumping felt not clunky (other reviews mentioned this, maybe this got fixed since the review). The levels were designed nicely and really reminded me of Spyro etc. It seems to be a one person project and i expected loads of bugs but was positively surprised to find hardly any. The in game menu offers a "back" button that brings you back from the levels to the hub world - i didnt manage to get stuck anywhere in the levels, but having that option was reassuring and made me explore every nook and cranny without worrying to get stuck. And it was helpful when i gathered the last things in levels and could just teleport to the hub without playing the level to its end. Every gnome freed and fairy captured gets saved instantely - even when you die/teleport to the hub. I did manage to completely bug my first save file - it was right after the tutorial and my second save did not have the problem when i tried it again.
