About Godtail: First Cut
Godtail: First Cut, a new game where players take part in a futuristic story in the year 2150 where a virus ravages the city, New Rouge; it's up to Violet to discover her new powers and fight back.
After what seems like a dull day of school and track practice, Violet overhears some conversation about some monster sightings. Afterward, her friend Hannah tells Violet to let loose and pay no attention to it – but maybe she should have. While Violet's story continues, the mysterious military leader progresses with the virus soon infecting New Rouge.
Godtail: First Cut is being developed and published by Studio Kamio and offers players a unique perspective on a storytelling RPG game. With hours of storytelling gameplay and turn-based fighting, Violet and her friends need your help to defeat the virus and what is happening to her city. The mysterious virus infects humans changing them into what some characters call “Embraced.” Violet's first encounter with these vicious monsters ends with her running away with her friend Hannah, but soon she will be strong enough to fight them off herself.
Godtail's gameplay is inspired by classical RPGs. It is a top down, turn-based RPG supported by rich story and audio. Players can expect text dialogue and 2D cinematic cut scenes contrasted by high energy turn-based attacking with powerful special moves called "talents", and game-changing player transformations.

Well, I gave the game a chance, but it just wasn't for me. The visual novel parts are really rough and tropey, and they severely suffer from what I like to call "bubble syndrome": Everything that the protagonists do happens inside a "bubble", and the world outside the "bubble" (i.e. everyone else) doesn't seem to care what happens. It's one of the weakest possible writing styles, either caused by a lack of skills, or used on purpose to shoehorn a nonsensical plot. What's even worse, there isn't any real map exploration or inventory/equipment management. You're simply thrown from one cutscene to another, and sometimes there's a battle inbetween. Since you can't explore and grind on your own, each battle encounter seems to be "tailor-made", but as a consequence, there's really only one way to win these battles. When your party members only have three skills, and one of them is vastly superior, there isn't any strategy involved: Use the superior skill and win - or don't use it and lose. The game would have been better off without the turn-based battles: They add nothing of interest, they're simply bait to lure JRPG players. Here's a simple lesson: If you want to have the best of both…3 found this helpful
Great game for the old school RPG lovers. Proud to present.
