game was alot of fun, combat was simple but enjopyable, platforming was fairly easy with several secrets i did run to to a few glitches, controller support wouldnt work at first but then just started working half way thru (could be something on my end tbh) thers also a certain area were if u die u respawn in the wall and have to restart the game. tho the game was super short so it wasnt really a big deal and was a mild annoyence at most

This game was a lot of fun and much more than I was expecting for a free-99 game. Its short and sweet and the soundrack is nice. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I played this again today and figured I'd talk more detail. The combat is pretty simple, you can either slash or shoot, and enemies have pretty simple movements as well, getting a little more variety towards the end. Avoiding damage boils down to baiting the enemy and then attacking between their attacks. If this was a longer game, I'd expect that this might grow old but for the length of this game it's just short sweet and satisfying. (also if this was going to be a longer game I'd doubt that the combat would remain this simple.) Difficulty-wise I think the enemies should move just a little faster for my tastes. (I have played a fair bit of Hollow Knight and Silksong if that helps put my skill level somewhere I wouldn't consider myself super good at these kinds of games but not a beginner either). The platforming is pretty simple but there are some that were challenging to time properly, which was fun. I will say that I wish the movement was a lit…

if I didn't have my friends watching me play I wouldn't have bothered finishing it, and that only took me 14 minutes. the camera makes you blind to every fall. the only way you're ever getting hit by a melee enemy is by your own attack locking you into an animation that seemingly makes you experience slow motion every time you use it. the enemies have long wind-up times with no sideswap correction so you can just see their attack start up, switch sides, and their attack will whiff so you get to whale on them for free. that strategy works for every melee enemy in the game including the boss, so that was pretty boring. it's a platformer because you jump from platform to platform. it's a metroidvania because you go back to the previous room to progress (once). I really like how one reviewer put the movement; it's "crude". it doesn't feel good, and that's with me willingly completing Getting Over It seventy times. I barely used my gun. Where are the thorns. the game is palatable only because it's short, and I still would've quit midway. the cutscenes were cool tho.

Good background art. Animations are OK, definitely show promise and talent. Gameplay is all right, though the button layout on controller is nonsense and not customizable. I tried playing 3 times, but glitches and crashes prevented me from finishing the game on Steam Deck despite reaching the boss. You have to start the whole game over if the program closes. No saves, not sure if the checkpoints work either since it wouldn't let me reload without closing the game. I would play this dev's next project, but this experience was not worth my time.

• You cannot exit the Sound Options menu except by forcibly closing the game. • Falling onto certain spike sections shoves you into a wall and softlocks you. • Entering specific areas removes all the sound effects. • No way to save your progress as far as I can tell. • Keyboard controls feel very unintuitive and cannot be rebinded. • Combat against flying enemies feels very awkward and nearly impossible to do without taking damage. This game certainly has promise given the aesthetics and tone, but it definitely needed more time in the oven. If a proper save system is implemented I'll reassess my thoughts, otherwise trying to get through this game in one sitting with the current keyboard setup doesn't feel worth it to me.
