If Metal Slug was a metroidvania with a story that was reminiscent of the original Bionic Commando for the NES, and you gave it a fresh coat of paint and some QoL features, it'd be this game.2 found this helpful
It checked all the right boxes for me in what it advertises to be, I had a good time with GUNS OF FURY.1 found this helpful
It is a fun game if you are into Metal Slug if Metal Slug were a metroidvania. The story is pretty simple as is combat but finding your way around is a nightmare for about 90% of the game in terms of what you are supposed to do next. Also getting the money necessary to buy everything is obnoxious
Guns of fury is an excellent Metroidvania, while the genre has been flooded in the last years by countless attempts of achieving the magnificence of Super Metroid or Castlevania SOTN, they usually fail in different categories, whether is a bad design of the map, uninteresting upgrades and gameplay or just overall a lack of essence in general. Guns of Fury I believe is one of the greatest modern Metroidvanias that simply doesn't get the attention it deserves. The gameplay loop is very interesting following the usual conventions of the genre without it getting tiresome. The upgrades you find along the way are fun to play with and the equipment of different guns and artifacts that give you different abilities are great. The map is large enough to be interesting and not exhausting to go around and the story while not the greatest is fun to go along. I'll give this game a 5/5 stars rating. If you love metroid or Castlevania, this will surely scratch your itch.
TL;DR
Meh in all respects. really wish steam would go with a 1/10 score. my score is 6/10. tries to blend Metal slug, with metal gear solid and put it in a metroidvania. interesting idea but misses the mark. a lot of wasted potential by using mechanics that on their own works well, but fails to come together. IN short it's to easy, you have these impressive boss enemies and you can basically beat them in the first try. the game feels like it wants to appeal to hard core gamers and casual gamers, which is just a recipie for mediocrity. in the end i recomend it, mostly because i apreciate the attempt to inovate, and it's not horrible at the pricetag. Excellent 80s actionmovie metroidvania with tight controls, smooth gunplay and a metal slug flavor. Sound design and music is top notch! 15-30 solid hours of fun gameplay and exploration, though not much in terms of replayability. Highly recommended, looking forward to buying a sequel!
