Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure

One of my first game in my PSP and I got the UMD for this. Nostalgia is real. Beat it now on steam again.

This is a long overdue review on a game due to life reasons that I put on the backburner so to speak and restarted recently and I will say Gurumin is a silly charming game that goes in a somewhat interesting direction with it's story and has gameplay that I feel suffers for a frankly silly reason in my book that you can almost entirely ignore and just have fun with instead, which I wish I did XD but it's another great Falcom game with simple yet fun mechanics to it dood. Okay full review time! So Gurumin follows the adventures of Parin! A young missy who travelled to a miners town to live with her Grandpa, here she discovers some new friends only she can she and she begins on a unique adventure in a unique land not quite her own dood! The game plays rather basically, you have an attack, (X/A) a dodge (Square/X) and a jump...and that's it! well kiiind of, later on in the game you unlock some skills but those don't really use any more buttons to perform, oh you can also charge attack too by holding the attack button and letting the meter fill, very important dood! Incredibly fun, cute, and a rare moe game. A game made to give you the nostalgia and melancholy of childhood imagination, feelings I dearly treasured and miss. If you too wish to connect with your lost, younger self and experience what gaming was all about, I can’t recommend this game enough. The option to patch JP VA into the game is available through a guide in the guide tab, so do yourself the favour.

A fine one-dimensional action game that feels like it would have been on the PSP or something, with a cartoon setting and plot from when cartoons were fun and generally not abusively emo, unrelentingly gay, or foidcore slop like pretty much every cartoon for 15+ years. It's a bit like the ZWEI!! games, only with better handling than the first, and without the blubbering crybaby cringemonger protag of the secone one. There a handful of "biomes" with a handful of levels in them and you clearn one and unlock some other path and for some reason you get a better rank if you break every single pot like a someone who was personally wronged by a pottery class. Camera is probably the meanest enemy in the game. Any sale is a good time to grab it.

2.9 hours in: The camera is abysmal. Edit, almost 9 hours in now: Still bad, you never get used to it, so if its driving you crazy 90 minutes in, realize that it stays that bad BUT with more complex platforming requirements, so if that's the case, refund before the 2 hours, unlike me. I thought I'd start to tolerate it by now but camera is truly atrocious and has aged like milk. I adore rpgs and action rpgs and there are tons and tons of superior games. All of the Ys games are way better.

Only good Falcom game tbh
