About as basic as it gets. It's randomly generated but everything that is generated is basic and does the same thing in each level. Every item you pick up heals you and you have one weapon. There is a projectile turnip to throw but equipping it is too annoying. i thought this would have more depth like crafting or a shop as you can chop down trees but nothing really happens. I'll give it a thumbs up as it has cute graphics and it was cheap to purchase but this is still borderline recommended.11 found this helpful
Heart and Axe is an ultra simple retro pixel maze/button mashing brawler where you control one of two low res pixel characters running through procedurally generated low res mazes. Chop down "trees" and fight low res monsters with no real sense of meaning or achievement. Apart from the woefully boring gameplay, lack of real content (let's repeat the mantra: procgen is not content), awful graphics, samey enemies, there's also an amazingly high $6 price tag for this vacuous shovelware. On the plus side, customisable controls is the only nod here from the developer that he's possibly aware he's not developing for console, although I do understand console gamers love this kind of really low quality in a game. If they didn't, they'd be PC gamers, after all.3 found this helpful

its a cute game, the graphics do what they need to do. The character designs are pretty cute, too! Using items can be a little inconvenient but its no big deal in the long run. I appreciate that its something simple that I can just pick up and play any time I want. Good way to pass the time by. Oh I forgot to mention, the music is also pretty enjoytable!
It's not very good. Repetitive levels followed by tedious boss fights, and no replay value.
