About Hell Pie

Hell Pie is an obscene 3D platformer that takes bad taste to the next level! The game sees you grab the horns of Nate, the ‘Demon of Bad Taste’. He is given the honorable task of gathering the disgusting ingredients for Satan’s infamous birthday pie. To do so, Nate must venture out into the overworld and do whatever it takes to ensure those ingredients are secured in time, or there’ll be hell to pay!

Luckily Nate isn’t alone on this quest, his ‘pet’ angel Nugget is there to offer support. Nugget offers his holy insight when needed, but more importantly is chained to Nate, so can be used like a grappling hook or swung around as a weapon. Nate can also equip horns he finds across the world to give him new hellish abilities.

Together Nate and Nugget will explore insane environments, meet tons of repugnant characters and witness some truly shocking sights. Hell Pie is a seriously twisted take on the classic mascot platformer, come along for the ride if you think you can stomach it!
  • Become a demon: You're Nate, demon of bad taste, the 8th deadly sin. While not taken very seriously in hell, he is feared on earth (by some...a few...2-3 people at least).
  • Heavenly support: Nugget the angel does not only look cute, he's also useful. Throw him like a grappling hook, use him as a weapon and let him be your guide.
  • Freedom: Use the extensive moveset to overcome obstacles the way you want.
  • Filth: It might look cute, but there are violent characters, illicit drugs and sodomy.
  • Stuff: Collect things! Lots of things!
  • Hell and above: Explore 4 big worlds and survive challenging platforming levels.
  • Fashion: Buy outfits. You're the demon of bad taste and should look the part.
  • Random bullet point: Did you know? Necrophiliac ducks exist.

Hell Pie is a 3D platformer with some collectathon elements to it. The gameplay mechanics is solid, and overall movement around the levels is really fun, but it’s a shame the game is brought down by it’s theme. I knew what I was getting into with the game’s description and content warnings. I am accustomed to dark humor and knew this game’s inspiration is Conker’s bad fur day from the n64 era. I went into this knowing there could be toilet humor/gore/innuendo, but the themes in this game was abhorrently bad. Dark humor without the humor. It’s like there was a checklist for shock value on adding tasteless themes and they were just thrown in without much effort in the context on why it’s even in the game. Again, I really did like the movement options, the upgrades, and levels- from a gameplay perspective. The theme did feel like it brought the game down. Steam’s reviews just boils down to “Do you recommend this to another person”, and I would have to say no. There are other 3D platformers out there- and some that can do the dark humor stuff right.

First of all I need to point out that I really tried to like this game and I arrived at the last main area. There is an emblematic aspect in this game which is the humor. Sorry, even if we live in the era of post-facts, I wouldn't be honest in saying that it's not clicking with me or simply that it's juvenile. If the "jokes" are of the caliber of "wifi cables" and NPCs saying stuff like "why does pooping feel so good", I don't think it's something that just doesn't resonate with me, but rather, that these are the first things that popped in the head of who wrote the dialogues and were put in the game straightaway. And what's worse is that the whole game seems to be made in this way: the level design is just random, the platforming is not good due to often weirdly spaced objects (made worse by the fact that often don't cast shadows, so you don't see if you're going to land of them). These two elements are the bread and butter of this kind of game, and they taste like the food in the gluttony area. The game got even worse later on as the mechanics of the power ups and their weird unlock progression don't quite complement and at times even work against the essence of a 3D platformin…

Even though there was a glitch and I had to restart the game to fix it, it genuinely is amusing and fun to play. The humor and animation style is my favorite so far.

Seems quite rushly made but has fun gameplay and dialogue for sure!

Hell Pie is criminally underrated. The comedy is excellent. Don't worry the gore though, it's just themed like that. It's not a Satanist propaganda, it's just a game world that's trying to breathe off your SSD/HDD. Very unique game, because you get to see edgy humor with comic relief in it and it's very fitting. The duo dynamic is excellent. You have some burping baby chained to you that eats lots of can food. It's just the humor you'd see in Crash Twinsanity or Mario Sunshine (Mario goes to prison btw) with that humor of era late 90s-early 2000s. It's a fun game, that is not trying to reach for someones neck but just existing to entertain you. I don't see nothing wrong it. The dynamic character duo is excellent and it gives refreshing 3D mascot platformer games. It feels like a living cartoon world, not taking itself seriously. If you remember, there was once an era of GTA clones, hobbyist projects and fangames. This game just gives up that fresh energy of mocking the excessive use of violence of media. It's a fun duo though. You control the demon character and the big belled baby tells you all kinds of weird stuff. But can also be helpful. Very cool! They give off that vib…
