Agents of Mayhem

The game didn’t blow me away but it also wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Gameplay-wise it is third-person action shooter, kind of like a mix of Crackdown and Saints Row (set in some sort of Saints Row alternate universe) where you play as one of 12-premade characters (+3 more in DLC’s) across rather small open-world city fighting “bad guys”. My main criticism is that the Agents of Mayhem becomes very repetitive after only few hours of gameplay. I don’t know if it was either due to budget or time constraints but for a moment I thought I’m playing some sort of prologue before the real game starts but no, it simply doesn’t have much variety in its assets and gameplay structure. I got the game for a little over £1 on -95% discount so at least I’ve definitely got my money’s worth of entertainment from it, overall I’d give it about 6/10 score. Also worth mentioning, obtaining 100% achievement completion in this game is no longer possible as there’s a online-only achievement and official servers have been shut down years ago.

I genuinely loved this game for the first few hours (gameplay, personality, style). But then the massive repetitiveness set in, which turned love to like (literally endless cycles). Then the progress losing bugs and glitches started to really irritate turning like into meh (hanging, unreachable quest objectives, enemies in walls). Unfortunately, I dismissed the reviews that mentioned bugs and glitches. I am stubborn so I will complete still try to complete the game. Consider this review a 40% like and 60% dislike.

Works, if you're a fan of Saints Row though, there might be a problem there. but it still fun.

I think the game's great. I wouldnt come to this for an open world with a wide variety of activities, or saints rows deep character customization. But its simple mindless fun. Its an open world single player hero based looter shooter, much like borderlands, only they removed the need to farm guns, and they allow you to play with 3 characters at any given time. The "loot" comes in the form of crafting materials for single use items, new special skills and passives for your heroes, and mods for those skills and passives. Removing the weapon grind found in most looters makes the content very finite, this is not a forever game like most looters, but it has the action of a game like like crackdown, and the buildcraft of borderlands, condensed into a neat 15 or so hour package. Sidenote: To get the game to work on both my windows pc, and my steamdeck, i had to turn off steam input. Steam input messes with this game even launching.
