SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake

I tried to start this back in November of 2024, played thru the first level, got bored, and then never touched it for almost 2 years. Honestly, this game is just ok. It's missing a lot of what made Battle for Bikini Bottom (BfBB) special. Moveset is severely limited, combat feels monotonous and the amount of them is excessive, music is just ok, story is nothing special, and so on. Level design is ok, though it feels mostly linear at times. Also the game just feels unfinished at times, even now. Lack of sound effects when you hit things, janky hitboxes, and the sliding is awful. The references are neat, although sometimes it just feels like "haha remember this" rather than something tangible for the game (special mention to the chocolate guy for butchering the scream). It feels like they just reference it with the minimal amount of context to allow the reference to happen, and the voice lines just sound off. I honestly was ready to drop this game after the second world until i found a mod online, dubbed the Refilled mod, that adds a bunch of tweaks to make the platforming faster paced. The cosmic Shake is fun little game. I enjoyed the diffrent worlds to explore, without any of them overstaying there welcome. Good times. Platformerwise was it quite easy, but thats ok for me.

I am having fun with the new mechanics and story. I like we get to hit them, interact with them and get their reactions. Mass assault is fun! I'm getting frustrated with the cave platforms moving like a conveyor belt, you can't stay too long lest they'll sink, you have to carefully walk across the log(?) and not fall off, THEN, you have to escape the collapsing cave!! It sucks you don't get checkpoints for those difficult things. If you leave in the middle of it and come back, you're sent back before the circle platform things. Maybe it's just me (in BFBB: Rehydrated, I initially dreaded doing three of the Sand Mountain challenges and won with slight ease. Still haven't beaten Kelp Forest Slide). The other problem are the random crashes unprompted and should I leave my laptop alone for a few minutes! It'll freeze and give me the blue screen of death. My laptop was fine during BFBB: Rehydrated. I don't like when the game automatically have me redo a slide, my camera is facing own and I'm forced to adjust it so I can focus.
