Hello Goodbye is a visual novel whose story occurs in a Japan divided into 3 different countries, with the protagonist being a solder from one of them, being tasked to do an important mission in another. To do that, he must infiltrate a school, where he eventually gets to know a few ladies, and the story falls into your cookie cutter romance story after. I am not a big fan of the plot. I would not say politics and military, and the laidback years of schooling, are not miscible with each other, but I would say the end result in the novel is that they do appear to be so, with either not being well executed, on their own, or together. Little background is provided in how the country broke down, or it eventually became united again in the end, and the political-military side of the story feels more like an afterthought to the romantic school life of a school student that is not even a student to beging with. Being a harem game obviously the focus is in the romance with the girls, which on its own is decent enough, while not being particularly great. The story does have good character development, but the ladies are mostly monotone. Then there is the fact almost everyone appears to …9 found this helpful
Hello, Goodbye is unhinged. The writing and plot are solely dictated by rule of cool. An H Scene will just start in an active warzone because it's an h-game. The TL and localization are pretty solid quality for the most part, but there are some moments with some pretty bad typos/text formatting slip-up. It is a fun experience but wow does this require the reader to really thread the needle on suspension of disbelief. It's a wild ride that generally benefits from not thinking too hard about it, but also requires thought and investment into political intrigue - which is a really tough balance to ask of a reader. Basically the story is a lot more light hearted than it seems. This is definitely a VN you recommend to a friend who is already into VNs and wants something more eclectic. The music is great (Natsume's theme is S+), you get 3 pretty great love stories and an underlying mystery that gets resolved in a mostly silly love story in an underwhelming, bizarre (but cool) manner. A lot of hilarious moments. Has some interesting themes about love, identity, and fate, too. update: As time goes on, this is one of my absolute favorite VNs I've ever played. The music is just so fantast…1 found this helpful
Hello, Goodbye is a visual novel developed by Lump of Sugar and published by NekoNyan Ltd that blends romance, mystery, and political intrigue into a story that gradually shifts from covert operations to deeply personal relationships. At first glance, the game presents itself as a tale about espionage and hidden agendas, but over time it reveals a much stronger emphasis on emotional storytelling, character development, and the quiet moments that shape meaningful human connections. Rather than relying on constant tension or dramatic twists alone, it builds its appeal through atmosphere, dialogue, and the evolving relationships between its cast. The story follows Toubu Kaito, a young intelligence operative sent undercover into Tenshudo Academy located within Morino, a special district carrying political significance and fragile social balance. His mission initially appears straightforward: infiltrate the school, gather information, and fulfill his assigned objectives while concealing his true identity. However, life inside the academy quickly complicates his plans. Everyday interactions with classmates begin to blur the line between professional responsibility and personal attachmen…
I bought this back during the time this and other visual novels were caught in a certain crossfire, but only recently the mood struck me to pick it back up, especially thanks to Steam Deck. Honestly, I've been thinking about it even when I'm not actively reading it. It's the first visual novel to do that for me in a long, LONG time. Pros: - Saotome Suguri (my waifu of choice) - I like how most of the BGM has a chorus - It's a fun time through and through Cons: - Only one or two choices; they only determine which route you go down, at least on a first read - Made me cry a lot, though TBH it's a good thing
I have yet to play the entire game yet but my god is the plot good. It would have to take a 3 year old writing it to mess it up at this point. Highly recommend.
Hello, Goodbye is a solid effort from NekoNyan Ltd, and has everything you’d expect from one of their outings.
