About Horde of Viscount

Step into a land infested by the massive Horde of ViscountTraverse through both classic-vania stages and regions with exploration where you use subweapons for your advanced movement.  Be wary, you only have a limited amount of these subweapons. Instead, you must plan your actions wisely. Use the Dash Knife to attack your enemies from far away? -or perhaps use it to flee? The fun doesn't stop there:
  • Any Ending for Main Story Quest takes 10 hours, but 25 hours for all endings, 40 hours for 100%, then 80 hours for the map randomizer rogue-lite mode.
  • Build the town back to its former glory using materials from your adventure.
  • Accessibility with difficulty levels available from casual up to souls-bourne-ring.
  • Traverse treacherous classic arcade stages and exploration areas.
  • The equipment you find drastically changes how your character plays such as: shoot fireballs, shake the earth when you jump, Make the environment explode, and even more dramatic features.
  • Trade with various merchants in a no economy system
  • Complete quests to improve the town and new loot
  • Craft powerful subweapons to mow down hordes!
  • Level up different stats using the materials you find while exploring the world

HORDE OF VISCOUNT! HORDE OF VISCOUNT! HORDE OF VISCOUNT! Right off the top: this game plays exactly as smoothly as it should. There is just a little dash of stiffness and jank, but like, the exact amount you'd want opening up a game that looks like a Game Boy game. Solid music and the subweapon travel system just kind of works. You feel like a big strong hero the first time you jump over a little ant and shoot your super cleats down at it, crushing it with such force that you are launched skyward. The mission/heat system really smoothly encourages replaying levels, and makes it feel a lot less like you're grinding for materials since you'll have other objectives you're trying to get to. Big recommend, surprisingly fun. EXTREMELY worth the price, probably worth more.

Plays like Castlevania mixed with the cute, whimsical humor of Earthbound. The art and enemy designs are adorable, the gameplay and controls are tight, and the music is incredible. You will die. A lot. But it's so satisfying learning a level enough to get through without being hit. The game starts off pretty lighthearted and gets more serious as the game goes on. If you like the nostalgic feel of difficult NES games, you won't be disappointed!

7.5/10 Would recommend Pros: -Really solid game overall -Works great on Steamdeck -Graphics are reminiscent of the original GameBoy -The gameplay is very straightforward and provides little barrier to entry on easy mode -There’s some replayability, if you’re interested enough to go back and play again. Cons: -I have learned I’m not very good at following written directions, which I’d how this game communicates. -The achievements are annoying to 100%. I’m not sure I’ll be able to hundo this game. -I have some real issues with jumping games because I’m an idiot with no hand eye coordination. If you are good at that, it’s no big deal. In Summary: Every dollar you spend on a game should be at least 1 hour of entertainment. This game is an absolute steal for the price and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good little game with a healthy dose of gameboy nostalgia.

This game brings me back to Game Boy, but with a ton of modern QoL additions. It's good fun with adjustable difficulty.

If you can forgive a warts and all devotion to the aesthetic of an original Gameboy display there's a surprisingly engrossing Metroidvania here. An emphasis on item collection for crafting, secondary weapons with movement effects, and progression and powerups tied to equipment mechanically differentiate and make this game surprisingly deep. A medley of options to improve accessibility also impresses. Good thing too, because the gam will tend to grate, especially in the early hours. As far as specs are concerned, I ran this game successfully on a Sandy Bridge Celeron G460 with a single core and no graphics card. You would have to go out of your way to try to make a machine that couldn't handle this game. https://youtu.be/JCa3XJklEnM?si=xR7NecEN-guznwDB
