Despite being verified, does not work on the Steamdeck. It's a charming game, but the save file corrupted multiple times and/or did not save.

I was surprised I liked it more than I thought I would.

As has been said by many others, I really like the idea of this game, mixing a Metroidvania with a detective game. However, all of the metroidvania mechanics are pretty terrible, and not integrated well with the detective elements at all. There's no map which is horribly frustrating when combined with labyrinthine level design and pseudo 3D navigation that just makes it confusing to try and get anywhere specific even in areas with landmarks. The weapon reload would be good for a menu UI, but having to constantly do it is just unbearably annoying. And honestly, I find it difficult to focus on the story because of how long the breaks from it can be with all the traversal. It doesn't have the immediacy of an adventure game. I've thought about going back to this game several times after my initial two hours with it, but every time I just get this daunting feeling of having to contend with the game's misguided mechanics and bugs in some cases. To me, that's the mark of a game that's just not worth playing again. I'd love to see another crack at this, but in this particular case I can't recommend playing or buying this.

I'd recommend this game if even half of what you did made sense, or there was more descriptions to what's going on except 'speech bubbles' for everything. I've played it before and gotten further yet it's been long enough that I can't even get past the first 'mission' location you visit after getting the phone call. How is it a game that's been out almost 10 years not have any kind of walkthrough except videos of someone else playing?

A great game! Every major character is a woman which I found a pleasant surprise! Your female protagonist has a relationship with Suzie Q, a waitress at Slice of Pi, which was a really pleasant piece of queer representation! Not to mention hilarious dialogue, incredible 4th wall breaks, and so many secrets in the game which made exploring really rewarding! My only critique is that a map would have been helpful as I got lost in the Dump, under Remington, and in High Table. Best part of the game was Franky's purrs and bubbly chasing :)

a surprisingly deep story for an 8 bit game
