Cyberpunk Inquisitor

I don’t like timed games – I hate to be rushed, especially in puzzles/deduction games. I’ve been looking for a deep detective game for a long time since the masters – Obra Dinn and Roottrees, of course – and this most definitely is not it. Yet, I enjoyed every minute of it. Each ‘run’ is short but generally long enough to find the murderers and if careful explore everywhere and name everyone. I do think the ‘main-side’ quest(?) of each character was a little too vague and completely unrelated to much of the information you find. I failed several of them multiple times by getting the killer and weapon correct and trying to guess the overall answer … and yet I didn’t care. The different characters aren’t really necessary and don’t really differ enough to exist in my opinion. I think it would have had much more depth if each of those characters had a full storyline (rather than 3 little hints) and put the murders (perhaps add thefts? Kidnapping?) as a side gig but then that would be a different game so… I don’t know. Anyway, there’s a demo and that gives more than enough time to decide if you like it or not and the price is more than fair. I really hope to see more.

So I am trying this out and I've been playing for the past couple hours in the rain on my couch. I am enjoying myself thoroughly, and the game is much harder on the second level difficulty. The game will tell you that someone is lying, but there are sometimes a number of conflicting pieces of information, and there are several levels to relationships that the game is less than explicit about. I've solved one case perfectly, but that's out of four tries, and I was not taking into account all of the information. That's on me, but I do wish the game had some level of tutorial where in you could understand conflicting information, inaccurate information, lies, and relationship depth. Maybe it is there, but for whatever reason I couldn't see it. I will say on the deck the text is extremely small, so I wind up taking notes on a separate sheet of paper despite some of the nice built-in systems to isolate suspects and organize your notes. I think I would enjoy this more on a desktop where I could type in my own information. The concept of an RNG murder could be done extremely poorly, but these devs clearly thought quite a lot about generating the interconnected players. I suspect the plots…

It's ok, feels like a downgraded version of their previous title "The Magister". Not a bad game, it's a simple cluedo style deduction game but it feels very lacking compared to previous title and overall feels like a let down for me personally.

The game may appear basic but the randomization of the cases - RNG suspects with RNG attributes, RNG weapons used, RNG placed rooms behind RNG locked door combinations - may actually force you to think logically in where to go first and who to interview first, because there is a time mechanic where you'll spend a unit of time when you go to different sectors. Moreover, there are 5 different inquisitors with different perks and ways of doing their thing. And each Inquisitor has their own secondary objectives to solve if you choose to do it. There are 3 difficulty levels at the time of writing, so total, there are 15 secondary onjectives to do, 5 per difficulty. The dev is active on his Discord and I and many others had the opportunity to suggest certain things to improve the quality of life features for the game eg. having an in-game notepad. However, the game can be hard enough at higher difficulties that I need to open Notepad to write out my findings! XD If you are into a crime solving game, Cyberpunk Inquisitor is such a good value in the genre. For a S$6.50 game, I really enjoyed it.

I got a lot of enjoyment out of the game. It's a murder mystery rogue-lite with a simple concept: find the murderer and the murder weapon. Each character has 3 levels of difficulty and it's a satisfying challenge that I find still engaging even once you have a strategy. The bonus story/ challenges also add a fun extra set of goals on top of the murder investigation. The atmosphere of the setting is great too. If you enjoy logic puzzles, you'll enjoy this game.

Excellent adventure! Great Music and fun graphics. The mysteries are complex and only going to get deeper as the development progresses. The developer is a seasoned professional so the future is bright!
