About Hotel 188
In Hotel 188, there are no monsters chasing you or cheap jumpscares. The fear comes from somewhere else: the atmosphere, the silence, the sound of your own footsteps… and that constant feeling that something doesn’t quite fit.You wake up in a place you don’t recognize. Time doesn’t move forward, the rooms feel the same but different each time you return to them, and the only path is forward... even though you have no idea where “forward” is. Soon enough, disorientation becomes part of the journey. You start to get lost, doubt yourself, and wonder if you should keep playing or take a break. This is the real experience of the Backrooms. It’s not just about looking, it’s about feeling it deep inside.Hotel 188 is not just about walking aimlessly. Along the way, you’ll find small puzzles that aren’t just there for decoration. They are part of the world, integrated into the environment, forcing you to think, go back, and observe more than you thought you needed. They’re not impossible, but they are designed to get under your skin, just when you thought you understood what was going on.Every sound, every flickering light, every room that seems the same but isn’t… everything is crafted to make you feel that this “hotel” has a life of its own. And the worst part is, you don’t know if it wants you to leave… or stay.Hotel 188 is for those who seek more than just a typical horror game. It’s for those who want to experience the true anxiety of the Backrooms, get lost in them, get frustrated, and still keep exploring. Because you know that somewhere in this maze, there’s an exit… or is there?

Nice vibes and maybe the most visually interesting take on the liminal hotel I’ve seen. However, puzzles are more annoying than anything when you’re in a huge maze. I quit right at the end of level two because of this. It’s also a shame that there are a handful of ai slop images used in one of those puzzles. Misc: -Setting shadows to anything higher than Low makes the game stutter constantly when walking. -Vibes aren’t very creepy or claustrophobic.1 found this helpful
A fun little Backrooms-like adventure with some creative level design and a few good puzzles. Has some sound problems but they aren't significant enough to ruin the atmosphere.
It's good. A few jump scares. No real entities that chase you, nothing happens that results in a game over or restart or anything. I don't think "dying" is even possible in this one. I like that it has a bit more of a focus on puzzles compared to some other games. So, as much as I like walking sims, this was a nice change of pace. A lot of other backrooms games lean really hard into the poolrooms, and I like that this one doesn't as much. Haven't seen many that focus as much on 188. Level 3 in the game is an 8-stage anomaly hunt. Heads up if that isn't your thing. It wasn't terribly difficult, and there's a good guide available here on Steam. The environment overall felt a bit small, and I didn't really get a feeling of being lost in a large liminal space like I do with other games. But the game otherwise had enough that this wasn't a big deal for me. I also don't like that there's no way to save progress. There is a level select, but I haven't checked if it persists between playthroughs. Overall I recommend it for the good design, lack of traditional entities, and somewhat different take on the concept. Well worth the price ($6 full price as of this review).
pretty good game, i wish there were at least a couple entities. I get some ppl dont like them but you can always give them an option to turn them off. For skilled players entities makes the games way more fun. But i digress, good puzzles, its actually a maze whereas to many games turn into just following a hallway to the end. Good graphics. Just not nearly spooky enough. PLEASE ADD SOME NEW LEVELS!!!!!
I enjoyed this game, one of the better Liminal Space games of 2026. Hope to see more from the devs.
