House of Evil 2

if the developer had put in any kind of actual effort this game could have been somewhat decent. but he didn't and so we get another horrible horror game turd sandwich served to us by a so called "indie developer". everything is translated by mister google and makes little to no sense, both story and instructions. the "voice acting" is actually some text to speech software talking (i'm not kidding!). controls and inventory management are terrible, gameplay mechanics are barely functional. don't bother running away and trying to hide. neither works. stamina runs out after 5 seconds of faster walking and hiding in closets doesn't work at all. the enemy just waits outside and keeps bashing at the closed doors until you decide to go outside and embrace your fate. sometimes you even get killed through closed doors anyway. it took 80 minutes to complete this trash game but only because the controls and such are just as bad as the rest of the game. same goes for the three (!) puzzles in the entire game. how does this game come with a 10€ price tag? for WHAT?? i'd rather burn my money than give it to a completely inept developer like this one. stay the hell away from this worthl…

It's much better than the original House of Evil but the limited stamina really hurts the gameplay in avoiding one of the baddies. I also encountered a bug with finding bullets and loading the gun but never able to use the gun to fire it. Very annoying. If the stamina limit was raised I would recommend the game.

The opening scene is a text-to-speech robot quickly explaining the story, which made for a weird first impression. As far as I can tell this whole game had a quick Google-translate to explain in-game objects and how-tos. This makes for a very disorienting experience when you run into your first "fight" and you have to awkwardly maneuver the controls to figure out how to handle combat. The interface is very rough and in need of being simplified. Character controls are also a bit awkward because the center cursor has to be precisely on the thing you want to interact with in order to trigger a response (opening and closing doors, picking up items, etc). The character walks around very slowly (which admittedly adds to the scare factor) and reminded me of being in those dreams where you are trying to run but your legs are like jelly. On the positive side the textures are well done, the creepy house you walk around in has a great look. The environment is interesting to explore. The puzzles could arguably have been ripped off from other games, but they are still fun. I liked the concept of exercising the demonic spirits as a method of combat. A very interesting sequel of House of Evil 1. Significantly shorter, with a much smaller map/ space size. But much better engine and graphics. Also more survival horror element: An enemy that is not defeatable until the very end The sequel removed the annoying ' biohazard-style herb collecting and crafting holy potions ' system. Leaving only two types of enemy. It's a good thing. And the game could be longer, but the current length is OK! This one and its predecessor are both unique games. Recommended for horror fans PS: Damn! It feels good to finally shoot and kill that annoying, undefeatable demon with only 10 rounds of bullets.
