About InnerSpace

Your greatest journey is within.

In the final days of the Inverse, you must help the Archaeologist recover the last remaining memories before they are lost forever. Fly through ancient skies and abandoned oceans to discover the lost history of this fading realm, where entire civilizations have died, yet their gods still wander.

InnerSpace is an exploration flying game set in the Inverse, a world of inside-out planets where gravity pulls outward instead of in. InnerSpace began as a project among college friends and evolved into a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2014. After years of development, PolyKnight is proud to welcome you to the Inverse. Your greatest journey is within.

Features:
  • InnerSpace is a game about exploration, about player-driven moments both small and grandiose. Take your time, soar through the skies and dive through the oceans, and the secrets of the Inverse will reveal themselves.
  • Scattered among the ruins are priceless relics, the final messages from the extinct civilizations that once ruled the Inverse.
  • Adapt lost technologies to build new airframes, each with unique abilities to soar above the waters, and below.
  • The Inverse is dying, but you’re not alone. Demigods still roam here, hoarding what power they have left, the keepers of secrets as old as the Inverse. Fly carefully.
  • Featuring an ethereal art style and soothing electronic musical score, InnerSpace delivers a thoughtful, provocative flying experience unlike any other.

A quick note from the developers:

We started PolyKnight Games back in college, when we would meet after class to talk about new challenges in game design. We became fixated on one question in particular: "What would a flying game be like in a universe of inside-out planets?" To answer that question, we decided to put aside our career plans and form our own indie studio.

InnerSpace is not like other flying games. We want to reward exploration, both in terms of storytelling and the mechanics of flight. If you’re expecting a traditional flight sim with aerial combat, this might not be for you. If you like the idea of a plane that transforms into a submarine, then dives inside the belly of an ancient demigod, you're in the right place.

Please contact us on Twitter or the forums if you have any feedback at all, or if you just want to say hello. Thanks so much for checking out InnerSpace. We hope you enjoy the flight.

Played on Steam Deck. Chill little flight exploration game. At times hard to find where to go or what to collect but flying around is nice.

I held off on this for a while due to a lot of people complaining about the controls and I can honestly say, I could not get past the tutorial with keyboard, but is was completly fine with a controller.

Great visual game, very short but worth to play.

The controls are disastrous. Controlling an "airplane" with the keyboard instead of the mouse is a disaster.

This was one of the first games I got myself on Steam (and started playing on PC as well) and the world was so immersive that I played for 6 hours straight and gave myself eye strain and nausea. I had barely ever gamed up till this game so I have no metric of saying whats the quality of the controls, and since my playing style is straight-up scaredy cat about everything I tend to go slow and stuck around with the basic glider for a long time till I got the feel for instinctive movement + going slow helps with orientation since all the spaces are so maze-like. Spoilers in the following brackets (the level with the bird made me cry but I saw some great gameplay vids and got through it yippee) and I came back for a second playthrough maybe two three years since my last run. All in all, v memorable game, special place in my heart for all the joy it brought and all the pain it caused (no u dont understand i ended up pulling an allnighter to defeat this level and by the time I finally stood up I had to teach myself how to see and walk again) but truly wonderful concept, visuals, storyline, music, level of difficulty for me, all that jazz.

Fantastic design that challenges the senses! It's so confusing and interesting alike — that the sky is suddenly the ground. Challenging and interesting environments. An intriguing plot that persuades the player to contemplate. No violence, no brutality, no perversion. A real sci-fi adventure about discovery! Controls are fully mappable and allow setting-up the gamepad to one's liking. This game even looks good at very low resolutions — I've finished it on a modded Chromebook with a N4020 CPU and its integrated UHD Graphics 600 iGPU, with Kubuntu. The Windows version works through WINE, but I used the native Linux binary. It took me some time to get the hang of the game. I abandoned it halfway through, then returned several times until I finally got the hang of it and finished the game soon after. InnerSpace is a casual game really: you cannot die. When the craft gets destroyed, you just respawn. And the gameplay mechanics are also casual: there are several craft to choose from, each with a different flying and handling style. The easiest craft to control is the Hopper, which can hover motionless at any moment, allowing the player to calmly and thoroughly inspect the surroundings, a…
