✦ AI summary
Players praise the game's unique and elegant art style, engaging movement mechanics that reward practice, and competent roguelike design that stands out from typical offerings in the genre. Common complaints center on limited variety in upgrades and weapon paths, difficulty that some find excessive without meta progression options, and a relatively short playtime, though several players appreciate the challenging difficulty as part of its appeal.
I think the creator is right about some of the problems, but wrong in their assessment that it's not a work to be proud of. it would benefit from attention its not going to get from the developer, but the art style they're so ashamed of is IMO elegant and gets out of the way of the actual gameplay. The controls seemed whacky at first but I got used to them quickly the only valid complaint there is the lack of variety, but it'd be possible to fix that by making more synergies and different upgrade paths instead of just one line for each weapon. Even as is, it's a refreshingly different, unique, and quite competent game. If this is what the developer considers a failure then I'll definitely be checking out what they consider a good product.7 found this helpful
Great concept, but requires a lot of precision. Iron Mandate is one of the more unique games I've seen in a while. You pilot a mechanical worm and fight various juggernauts to reclaim your throne. I love the design, the art style, and the music! The combat reminded me of old Flash games that had destructible maps. I do like the difficulty; even with the 20 challenges, it really felt like I accomplished what this game has to offer. That being said, I'm very mixed about this game. It's fun, but unfair at times. - Very aggressive and frustrating AI. The juggernauts always seem to know where you are going, and they will easily kill you if you mess up. Sometimes, they can hit you even when you appear to be submerged. - Rough controls. In one of the latest posts about this game, the controls were said to be one of the failures. For me, part of it seems true, but I don't think that is the main problem. Movement is a learning curve. It can be difficult to predict your trajectory in the air. There are no controls to accelerate or decelerate apart from Nitro. But my issue is more with weapon keybinds. You can't customize them, and it's easy to misfire if you are not looking …1 found this helpful
LIKE - Core gameplay controlling worm works well - Fun to experiment with different weapon combinations DISLIKE - Each run has good/bad RNG and skills cannot compensate enough for bad RNG such as underpowered weapons Worth playing if you enjoy random runs and skill-based gameplay. Plays great on Steam Deck.
