About It Comes Around - A Kinetic Novel

As seen in Singapore's Doujima, Glass of Water Studios is proud to present It Comes Around, born from a partnership between Glass of Water Studios as well as Afterthought Studios (Forgotten,Not Lost & A More Beautiful World)

A ritual to solve the mysterious death of a schoolmate goes horribly wrong, trapping the students and teachers of the Sugimori Occult Club in a horrible game of cat and mouse.

Who will survive this nightmarish hell?

The game is currently available in Windows, Mac as well as Linux.

"With our low price point, we hope to attract more readers to our project and bring a little bit of horror into their lives." Zechariah Ho, one of the founding members of Glass of Water Studios said.

"We sincerely hope that everyone will give us creative feedback and criticism so that we can further perfect It Comes Around as well as future products."

Darren Kwok, founder of Afterthought Studios, hopes that the art revamp will come as a welcome reward to those who so warmly supported It Comes Around on Steam Greenlight.

"Their openness to feedback from the campaign has allowed them to improve their product. It Comes Around will not be everyone's cup of tea, but everyone that we know who has tried it, loved it."

It Comes Around - A Kinetic Novel is a very short horror novel. I was looking through unfinished games in my library willing to complete what wasn't totally unbearable. I'm not sure why I didn't finish it 4 years ago when I started, I was like mere minutes till the end xD I think I'll have to choose a thumb down, there's not much to recommend here but I didn't actually hate the story, so it's more like a neutral review. --art is not to my liking. Perhaps it's the first novel without any screenshots at all. Even in indie projects with very low budget and weird visuals quite often some unique individuality is felt, here I found nothing appealing. Those same repeated red strokes indicating injuries didn't help for immersion at all. --story wasn't frightening or captivating, left me totally indifferent. Though potentially the plot is not that bad, I guess just its realization :( Too often I felt a bit confusing, I still have some questions to the ritual, the characters' motives. And the story was too short to really feel for any char. --typos. Why you could still be interested in purchasing and playing it: +cards; +it's cheap, so I guess even if you don't enjoy it it doe…

I can't quite point my finger on what is wrong with the game/font but I found it really hard to read, which for a visual novel is a really bad thing and therefore I could not enjoy the game on that basis already. It doesn't get much better from there on either. The Linux version of the game works without any issues.

It Comes Around – A Kinetic Novel is a supernatural horror visual novel developed by Glass of Water Studios and published by Afterthought Studios that focuses entirely on atmosphere, tension, and storytelling rather than player-driven choices. Built as a kinetic novel, the experience follows a completely linear structure where events unfold without branching paths or alternate outcomes. Instead of emphasizing gameplay systems or decision-based progression, the title places its full attention on delivering a carefully paced horror story designed to build suspense gradually and maintain unease from beginning to end. The story begins with a mystery surrounding the death of a student connected to the Sugimori Occult Club. Driven by curiosity and unanswered questions, a group decides to perform a ritual in hopes of discovering the truth behind the tragedy. Like many supernatural horror stories, good intentions quickly spiral into disaster. The ritual fails in catastrophic fashion, creating consequences that trap students and faculty inside an increasingly dangerous situation where survival becomes just as important as finding answers. The school environment proves to be an effective s…

PROs - a couple of CGs - it tried to be interesting - emphasis on tried -
I guess there was a plot twist?
CONs - VERY ramble-y, lots of flowery language - not very well translated, could barely understand some parts - very limited graphics - little variation in character art, BGs, and only 3-4 CGs total - nothing really interesting or likeable about any of the characters -
the random, weird necrophilia bit. WTF?
I played through the whole thing because I knew it was short, but I wouldn't recommend it. It needs a LOT of polish if it wants to be considered even a half-decent story.
