Kill the Clock is an engaging detective visual novel with an intriguing time-travel twist, praised for its compelling story, art style, character designs, and innovative dice-rolling mechanics that keep players invested. However, players express significant frustration with the game's slow development pace and poor communication from the developer, with chapters taking months to release despite progress updates, combined with minor complaints about dialogue tone and limited customization options in the base game.
Buyer beware, you'll likely be paying for an incomplete game that will NEVER be completed. It's been 4 months since my review and at the time, they claimed CH3 was actively being worked on. Guess what. It's now June and no signs of CH3 in game - even tho the dev notes said - CH4 is now being worked on and CH3 is being bug-fixed (with full translations done). That note btw, was from last month - it's now June 24th and devs have not updated yet. If you can't finish the game or deliver on deadlines, I'm going to recommend no. Devs barely communicate OR miscommunicate. Just for example. On Feb 28, dev notes said for CH3: "Script implementation into the game (97%) 🆕 QA (15%) 🆕" Guess when CH3 was "finished"? Devlog #12 - May 31st. But guess what also?? It's not in the game! Oh well.8 found this helpful
Kill the Clock is in early access so the game can change drastically. A murder with an interesting twist. I wake up on a train, bewildered at how I ended up here, as it was not my intended location. My objective? To kill a prominent local figure. When I infiltrate the mansion, he is already dead on the floor and his wife catches me; I end up in jail and escape, having to prove my own innocense. Kill the clock is a detective visual novel with an interesting twist on it. The goal is for the protagonist to solve a crime while dealing with a time travel mechanic to it. That is the entire premise and a sudden but intriguing introduction to the game Kill the Clock. The customization is nice. I can choose gender and profession, which impacts the amount of skill points in the abilities. Art direction is flowery and inspired by romanticized European art from the Belle Epoque era. Some of the character art design seem to have a dash of JRPG styling, particularly the hair. I love it. The standout feature in the game is the dice-rolling mechanic that is typical of the tabletop RPGs. Examples can be used when you need to convince someone what to do, or maybe break a lock, and even have…1 found this helpful
So far I've enjoyed the story very much and I'm intrigued to learn more secrets about the cast and especially the protagonist! I really like the artstyle and the character designs. That being said, there are certain aspects of the game that I'd prefer to be different. Some of the dialogue seems a little silly or too comical, which sometimes took away from my immersion of the game. I'd also like there to be more interesting mechanics, such as different mini-games or more chances to do dice rolls that could earn you various benefits (like gaining money or items), and lastly I wish there were more disguise options in the base game (I know there is the dlc stuff, but it would be nice to have more variety in haircolors and perhaps contact lenses etc). All in all though, this game is certainly promising and has an interesting premise!
I love this game so much! I have just finished Chapter 1 and wanted to leave a review. I came into this game a bit hesitant as sometimes visual novels have a tendency to be verbose however, Kill The Clock was engaging through and through. I really enjoy the dice rolling aspect of the game! While it can be frustrating at times being 1 point away from a successful check, it is also what kept me on my toes. If you are looking for something that is a bit more puzzle like, I can't say this will scratch that itch as the game gives you plenty of hits and redos to find clues and choose the right answer in certain scenarios. The optional combat was also fun for a nice little laugh. In the future I plan on playing a run with my combat fully specked. I am curious how all of these choices will ultimately affect the story and cannot wait to playthrough the rest!! The art is gorgeous and does not fall off once you get into the game. The characters are a bit tropey but they have their secrets. There are a few mini games such as the heart reader and the casino games. I do wish there were more opportunities to play these and it would be interesting if the characters had different/more reaction…
As of writing, only chapters 1 & 2 are out. That being said, I'm extremely invested in seeing where the story goes. The twists and turns in these two chapters have been super fun and I didn't run into any issues in my playthrough.
Really enjoyed the first 2 chapters. Waiting for more!
