What the store page doesn't tell you is just how educational it is - it's 10% game, 90% "this poison has this latin name and these chemical components and used to be extracted from this plant" (and there's a lot of poisons). Lots of indigestible information you then have to use to solve the puzzles/case. It is good, but ONLY if you care a lot about the science side of poisons. Which isn't a bad thing, I just wish I knew what to expect - the "story-telling framework" is much less present than the game description would have you believe. (I also wish the options menu was more obvious, and I'd like the option to turn off the voiceoiver - nothing wrong with it, I just personally like to read my visual novels and not hear them - but that's details)

"The Time Traveling Toxicologist" is a weird, incomplete and almost certainly abandoned webpage in exile... What do you do in the game? A little tiny bit of point and click adventuring but mostly reading about poison. This hasn't been updated since 2 months. While it may not be abandoned yet, it's rotting in development hell and it's probably never going to be finished. This unfinished game is just polluting Steam and making it even more difficult for gamers to find actual, finished games. This comes across as something unambitious and "simple" in terms of implementation and technical quality and depth, more like a game dev tutorial or an experiment. It's a classic case of a developer prioritizing the low effort needed to get a game listed on Steam over the actual delivery of a technically sound or compelling product. Whatever is needed to hammer out something "good" enough for Steam Direct self-publishing. The graphics aren't great, static photos of middling resolution and quality. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual med…

This is a pretty simple point and click game. It does require a little bit of thinking if you don't already have a background in the subject. Overall, it was a decently enjoyable, low stress experience, especially since it is free to play at the moment. Judging by the ending, it seems like there may be plans for at least one more chapter at some point, but I very much appreciate!this that this one doesn't leave you hanging in the middle of a story!

It doesn’t take long to finish, and while the puzzles were alright and made sense, the game overall wasn’t very difficult. Visually... it's pretty rough. A lot of the objects just look like random PNGs slapped onto a desk—like someone dragged and dropped clipart with no real effort to blend anything in. Definitely not winning any art awards. That said, for a free game, it’s okay. Quick, mildly entertaining, and at least the puzzle logic wasn’t total nonsense.

An educational game about poisons and their effects, identification & treatment, entertainingly dressed up as a classic crime movie. I learned two big things from this - firstly, the human body is a precariously balanced system, and an incorrect or partial treatment can be as lethal as the original poison attack; and secondly, I am so very glad that I did computing rather than medicine at university and as a career! Poisons must only be a very tiny part of what a doctor has to learn, and yet I'm still reeling from all of the biology, toxicology, chemistry and pharmacology information in this very short game...
