I love the idea of this game. But the poor controls really hold it back for me.

Kivi, Toilet and Shotgun is a scrappy and unapologetically rough indie action game developed by 16bit Nights and published by Back To Basics Gaming, built around a strange but memorable blend of vehicular combat, on-foot shooting, and survival mechanics set in a barren post-apocalyptic wasteland. From the outset, the game signals its intent to favor raw ideas over polish, throwing the player into a hostile desert where the road itself is as dangerous as the enemies roaming it. The tone is grim but faintly absurd, leaning into exaggerated violence and bleak humor rather than narrative depth, which gives the experience a peculiar identity that feels deliberately low-fi and uncompromising. The core gameplay loop revolves around alternating between driving segments and ground combat encounters. While traveling across long stretches of desolate highway, players must steer their vehicle through enemy ambushes, environmental hazards, and fuel-draining distances, all while maintaining control of speed and positioning. These road segments are tense in concept, emphasizing survival and momentum, but they can also feel punishing due to the game’s sensitive handling and limited margin for err…

The base game is reminiscent of web flash games but beyond that it is a frustrating buggy mess that isn't balanced properly. The gameplay alternates between driving sections where you need to reach the next town while fighting enemy cars and barricades of jobbers blocking your way. This part plays fine until you run out of the extremely few bullets your car is allowed to ever have (no upgrades for this for some reason) and if you don't drive in an almost straight line the whole way you will run out of gas and game over. If you reach the next town you'll be put into a wave based defense section against mostly weak enemies or into a boss fight where the greatest challenge is just getting out of the car that gets auto-piloted as you drive into town for some reason. As other reviews pointed out this is especially problematic because against later bosses the scripted event of getting out of the car gives the bosses enough time to immediately destroy it and take a chunk of your health. The latter part doesn't matter because even if you beat the boss the game is effectively soft-locked since you are expected to get in your now destroyed car continue, and if you check the shops for som…

Budget Mad Max. If anything, this is just for card farming as the gameplay isn't worth spending your time on.
