About Kursk - Battle at Prochorovka

A fan of WW2 strategy war games? Like to think about your next move rather than having quick reaction times? Battle Series Eastern Front - Kursk - Battle at Prochorovka is the game for you.
Battle Series Eastern Front - Kursk - Battle at Prochorovka, covers one of largest single tank battle in the history of warfare. Approximately 1000 tanks and assault guns met head to head near the town of Prochorovka, in a battle that became a desperate close range shoot-out which would decide the ultimate success or failure of Operation Zitadelle.
The 2nd SS Panzer Korps began it's attack on July 3rd, and spent the next 8 days breaking through the dense Russian defensive positions. During the late afternoon and evening of the 11th, they broke through and repulsed a counterattack by the Russian 31st Tank Corps. Reorganizing during the night, the panzers struck northward before dawn on the 12th. As dawn broke, the lead German elements ran head-on into the lead elements of the Soviet 5th Guards Tank Army and the battle was on. It was to last all day, in confused and savage fighting at close ranges.
This game recreates that day with the player being able to play both as the Russians and Germans or against the AI. Go to yobowargames.com for the latest news and support.

Kursk - Battle at Prochorovka (Kursk BaP) is a throwback type game to the board games of Avalon Hill, SSG, and SSI. For gamers like me, whose first ever war game was Avalon Hill's "France 1940", one can never get tired of these type games! Kursk BaP is turn based; I go, You go. As such, it is not a click fest; rather, it is a game for those who like to think a bit. Each turn is broken into 2 phases for each side: movement, then combat. Movement allows the player to decide his path as he goes, a great choice by the dev. Combat is pretty standard: pick your target, pick your attacking forces, select supporting artillery, if desired, then cross your fingers and roll the dice. Artillery can also bombard units during combat. This type of suppression fire is another great idea by the dev. Make sure you take advantage of it! While the graphics are not great, they are adequate. Most likely, fans of this genre will not be put off by non-top of the line graphics. It's the nuts and bolts of game play that matters, not the bow on the box. So, how is the game play? Well, one addition which could the game much more desirable is to let the game play as the Russians. Yes, in i…10 found this helpful
I bought "Prochorovka: Armor at Kursk" by Stephen V. Cole around 1980, and I still have it. I cannot complete a scenario, because the game just hangs, although it can scroll. So I'm sad about that, every hex on the map is there, every unit exactly the same, but I suppose I get a refund. The odd thing is that the game doesn't focus on the current unit in the AI phase, so you don't know what happened. You can't zoom out. So that is a pity, it didn't have to be up to modern standards, but it did need to work..4 found this helpful
I tried this and the game would have potentially but it seems unfinished. Definitely not fit for Slitherine and Matrix line of games.2 found this helpful
Buggy, crashes early. AI player inconsistent. Even if there are no adjacent combat, russians get decisive victory. VERY minimal keys for attacks taking place. This game was NOT tested very well.
I liked the easy play, rules and counters that remind me of old wargames, it has a low learning curve, good purchase on discount
games do not work, they start then stop, do not waste your money
