About Cauldrons of War - Barbarossa
Cauldrons of War Barbarossa is a turn-based strategic wargame.
From June 1941 until the Battle of Moscow, play the USSR or the Axis forces in one of the largest and bloodiest operations in history.
That was the summary, now I want to explain to you as an author what I wanted to do with this game:
"My intention was to make a very historic Wargame which would be the ideal game to launch when you want your WWII shoot
without wanting to launch one of your usual games that last for weeks.
I was also tired of the hexagons and "regions", I wanted to test a new system based on operations.
The result is more historic, simpler and faster.
I also wanted the gameplay to be very different for the German and the Soviet,
and I think you will see by playing that each side has its own particular feeling.
What I can promise you is that you have never played a wargame like this before and that like playtesters,
you'll want to come back to it often.

Barbarossa is a straightforward, engaging strategy game set in the Eastern Front that players find fun and addictive, with good depth despite its relatively short campaign length. However, it suffers from some design issues like inability to reform split armies, incomplete German campaign objectives, and lacks the quality-of-life improvements and features found in its sequel Stalingrad, making it difficult to recommend at full price when the superior sequel costs the same.
To confusing. Not balanced because its historical so you cant win as Germany or Russia by the time winter comes and timers end.2 found this helpful
I really like the pacing of this game. You can play a run in a couple of hours or less. Its a satisfying game to try and balance all of the fronts on either side, challenging but not impossible. Plays very well on steam deck, overall had a ton of fun with it!

A simple and fun game, although less polished than Cauldrons of War: Stalingrad. Both campaigns for the Soviets and Germans are fun, with several scenarios to choose from. It is however a shame that for the germans you cant actually reach all the way to the Archangelsk-Astrakhan line as they intended, with the furthest the game takes you being the northern portion of Volga, taking Karelia and Murmansk, taking Moscow and taking Rostov on Don.
Strangely addictive. Youtubers make this look far too easy for my own good.
Fun WWII that game doesn't take 100s of hours. Has enough depth to keep you interested. Well presented WWII strategy.
