About Left-Hand Path

"One of the most interesting and promising experiments in making large, complex games I've seen on the Vive." - Many A True Nerd

"If RPGs in VR are your thing, definitely check this out." - UploadVR

“Strange Company has created a massive world that you can spend far too many hours in.” - VRFocus

-----

Cast spells, perform rituals, learn terrible truths and try not to die in this massive Dark Souls-inspired VR RPG.

You awaken in a darkened castle – or is it something else? – full of dangerous creatures, a history of tragedy, and arcane powers that you can wield. From there, you’ll delve into the weird landscape of the Well Of All Rewards...

While playing Left-Hand Path, You Will

  • Learn arcane gestures to cast powerful spells: fling acid missiles, strike your foes using a lightning staff, rain meteors from the sky, conjure an army of screaming skulls, flaming boulders from the ground, and many more.
  • Master a complex ritual magic system based on historical Hermetic magic.
  • Delve deep into a fleshed-out game experience - over 15 hours of single-player, VR-exclusive content so far and more to come.
  • Become part of a history of human greed and ambition, tragedy, sacrifice in the name of love, and lust for power.
  • Fight lethal monsters that will test both your physical skills – duck, dodge, outmanoeuvre – and your mastery of magic.
  • Explore eerie landscapes, and interact with other humans, including historical figures like Lord Byron and Samuel Taylor Coleridge – and with stranger creatures still.
  • Gather the fallen Husks of your foes to gain power and unlock new abilities.
  • Choose whether to explore nooks and crannies of the world to discover secret truths and powers.

Left-Hand Path ISN'T

  • Left-Hand Path is NOT a seated VR experience. In Left-Hand Path you'll gesture to cast spells, squat to avoid an axe larger than your whole body, dodge to let arrows whizz past you, duck to look into secret passages, hook hidden items into view, and more. It's specifically designed for room-scale, and it's room-scale only.
  • Left-Hand Path is NOT a short arcade experience. It's a fully-fleshed-out, voice-acted, animated RPG with over 15 hours' play time.
  • Left-Hand Path is NOT easy. To quote my biggest inspiration for the project, Dark Souls, "Prepare To Die". But it's also not unfair. Enemies do have weaknesses, and you have the power of magic itself. You'll find your way.

We'll see you in the Well of All Reward.

We Who Watch The Well await you...

Play Style Details

Locomotion: Left-Hand Path supports both teleport-style locomotion and sliding-style locomotion.

Left-Handed Support: Left-handed play is fully supported.

Low-Terror And Story Mode: Prefer to play an RPG experience without the pant-ruining terror? Or want to enjoy the experience without so many gruesome deaths? Left-Hand Path now has optional Low-Terror and Story Modes so you can enjoy the game.

Arachnophobia Mode If you'd prefer to avoid spider-like enemies, Left-Hand Path has an optional spider-free mode for you to enjoy - but don't think that makes it otherwise less challenging!

Minimum Spec: Left-Hand Path should run smoothly on any PC that's VR-ready.

Play Time: Left-Hand Path is 15 hours of play time or more. This is not an experience you'll go through in a single play session!

Steam reviewers say...

“I was lured in by its enchanting graphics and fantasy lore that just blends in so well with the story. They're also horror elements I've jumped more in this game than any horror game I played with only two of the scares rigged.” - Knytron OMEGA

“My girlfriend said "this isn't as scary as you said." Then the very first enemy in the entire game attacked her. She screamed and tried to rip the Vive off, failed, and ran directly into the wall then fell on the ground.” - Deathdefy

“This game is right up there with Vanishing Realms. It's the scariest game I have ever played and the graphics and sound are excellent.” - Montaigne

I enjoyed this. Progression routes become waaaaay too obscure towards the end of the game though, and I eventually gave up at the end of Samuel at a part of the level which I would NEVER have figured out if it weren't for discussion forums. We need more games like this. But they also need more polish. w

This game was ground breaking when it was made, and still a fantastic game with an incredible immersive magic system. I played through a few times, and recently returned for another play through - its that good. I'm pleased to say its much complete than when I first played, although it not polished like a $80 AAA game, but its not an $80 AAA game. Its a legacy of love from a fantastic developer who really cared. RIP Nomad, you are still missed.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this game with clear conscience. Now let's get to details why. First the most obvious part - it's age is shown. Graphics wisely - it's not that big of an issue, though the general aesthetics does not lend itself to good graphics after, well.. almost 5 years. The great things about this game are certainly - the spellcasting system [even though it tends to have some recognition issues from time to time, and I love the inclusion of low terror mode. Grimoire is interesting and useful addition, some additional bookmarks could help though, given you already use single bookmark to navigate the pages. The big issue with the Grimoire is that it shows what could've been. Most if not all books and scrolls are shown in single projected screen, rather than use what already is in form of grimoire - tech is there, add a spell to 'read' it and there we go. Rituals are also fun to cast, however most of them, however you will find yourself look for correct place to cast it. Storytelling is also quite fun, though there are tons of books without interaction, making it quite jarring given many of the spells will be in form of books in the first place. With simplici…

This game is an impressive entry into VR, with a unique feel and intense story. All the negative reviews I've read are true - you need to be able to accept those things - but playing LHP, I felt like they are all part of the experience. Yes, it's dark and scary; no, the "low terror" mode doesn't turn on all the lights, put warning signs in front of the monsters, and fill the world with daffodils. Keep a spare pair of underwear in your pocket. Yes, the controls are clunky; but it really helps with the feeling that you are a delicate, vulnerable, walking meat sack, and if you can't come to grips with the magic system, you're going to be getting very intimate with the digestive systems of many horrors. Yes, the monsters are dumb. No, it's not going to be a cakewalk. There is a variety of them to learn, and new ones come with every level, with different abilities. It's not Space Invaders. The monsters repopulating the level is my biggest gripe. It's only been a nuisance so far, but I could see it ruining a save point. And that ramps up the tension a little, too. ;-)

Look, this concept and the premise is fantastic, I wish more games did gesture based magic especially in VR, but unfortunately this did come out in 2017... compared to some of the other stuff that came out then and especially now its a bit rough. For example there is no virtual turning beyond a 180 (from where you're looking at that time) so if you are someone that has the space and can get immersed this is probably great for you. But this is then the other issue- the hardware. This was designed for the Vive wands- which suck, and a lot of earlier VR games do this and when the devs cant or wont update it to work with newer hardware you get some funky hands and menus that dont feel right/comfortable when not using the intended controllers even if it does work, although due to this it limits what hardware it *would* be best with- which unfortunately would be wireless. Unfortunately from what iv gathered the developer has passed away so these issues are unlikely to be fixed which while a shame that they are no longer with us by itself, having updates for modern hardware wouldve worked perfectly with the Quest series (despite my distaste for them) obviously you could use vive wands and…

I guess this game came out before Touch Controllers? Movement is teleport based which i really don't like but also you can't turn around with the controllers which really I dont like. The story looks to be good but I can't play this with the controls the way they are setup and the limits you have to changing them.
