After completing the game, I can't fully recommend this game. That being said it is a good game and definitely has some aspects I would highly recommend. Pros: Really good time killer. A good D&D vibe to the game without going full miniature. (if you are looking for this, that alone would make me say play it) CPU demands aren't very high, so that is definitely a plus. Character creation is simple. The story was good. Didn't leave any lose ends. Everything was neatly tied up and eventually all lore questions were answered. Cons: Not enough enemy weaknesses. It felt like everything was weak to crush. Too many enemies had pierce and stab resistance. Even extremely fleshy ones. Navigation was an absolute pain. Also had I not taken to the community for help about maps, never would have made it through the game. Skill books are often glitchy and can't be used properly. It will use the wrong book or say you need a higher level skill even if you have skill. The ranks and levels for skills just made for a very confusing system overall. The system message box is often overwritten. Messages stop appearing. Stats mean virtually nothing. Raised a warriors strength to 43 with the help o…7 found this helpful
Overall, Legendary Journeys brought me back in time to old party-based RPGs. With party generation, attributes, skills, spells, resistances, poisons, diseases... Minor and major quests, rewards, lockpicking, trap detecting, dungeon navigation. Battles are taking place in a special "space", but enemies move freely in the world, so you can either avoid or hunt them. The game offers in-game help via Dungeon Master. Party and character customization is quite deep, yet naturally requires gold for learning new skills, so player is limited only by her own adventuring spirit. AoE spells are rare, and mostly require advanced magic skills, so early into the game one must be careful around mobs. Few details, that I do not deem negative, but might be important to know: Running does not exist (but one can move faster after resting at the tavern) There is alchemy, but receipts are expensive and rare (so are most ingredients) When in a pinch, one can insta-teleport to a safe space, or even run away from a difficult battle. Some visual glitches, that might occur, can be fixed by save&load. There is a journal that helps you keep track on quests and teachers. Maps are not interact…3 found this helpful
It's not old school, it's just pure garbage! Refund requested.2 found this helpful
This reminds me very much of the Might & Magic series in the 6,7 & 8 versions. It took a little to get into the mechanics but, once I did, it was full steam ahead. I got the demo first but I upgraded before I even got off the first island. The skill system is a tad complex as its not particularly intuitive but I'm getting it Well worth the $25 bucks I paid for it1 found this helpful
Worth it! Hours and hours of old school fun, very much like Might and Magic. Not a super polished AAA title, but more fun than first glance might show, and looks to be a full length (60+) hour game. This has: Big main quest, huge world with many locations, good variety of monsters and dungeon layout, lots of skills and magic to get tactical with in turned based combat, interesting character progression, several classes (you'll recognize them all), and a steady game with no crashes or game-breaking bugs after many hours offline. And oh yeah, it's NOT pixel graphics. Enemies are visible on the map -you can seek or avoid fights. After 20 some hours, I've collected 1 of 4 special things for the main quest, and who knows how far it goes after I get all 4. This doesn't have: triple-A budget and huge development team. This is an ambitious effort by a small team (maybe one guy). Graphics aren't amazing (but they're not ugly pixels.) There's no voice acting. Groups of enemies routinely clip through each other and landscape. That goblin is half-buried in a hill, and that ogre is so close he's an empty polygon shell, and that kobold who just half killed my mage is standing on t…1 found this helpful
This SHOULD be my kind of game. The core gameplay part is nice - kind of Wizardry 8-esque. A few fun classes, some interesting abilities, very indie and missing some QOL that is annoying but one can live with (you don't start with abilities, you get ability books in your inventory you have to use on the correct character, which... c'moooon). This gets a thumbs down because on top of all of the above, the UI is absolutely atrocious. I run 1920x1080, which I think is pretty standard. Some of the fonts are way too small. Some of the buttons don't scale well at all. The paper doll for your character's equipment slots is totally messed up and off center to anything that would remotely make sense. This makes it unplayable, when half of the words are too tiny to read and you're fighting the UI more than enjoying the game. It breaks my heart, but don't even get this on sale.
