About Little Orpheus

The year is 1962 and NASA are trying to put a man on the moon. In a remote corner of Siberia, a Soviet cosmonaut is heading in the other direction. Comrade Ivan Ivanovich is dropped into an extinct volcano in his exploration capsule, Little Orpheus, to explore the center of the earth. He promptly vanishes.
Three years later he emerges claiming to have saved the world. He has also lost the atomic bomb powering the Little Orpheus. He is taken to a top-secret bunker deep below the Ural mountains to be debriefed by the fearsome General Yurkovoi, a man so frightening even Stalin won’t buy him a drink. The General rolls up his sleeves, fixes Ivan with a steely glare and say “So... where have you been comrade? And where is my bomb?” And Ivan looks him right back in the eye and says “Well General, you might not believe what happened to me, but I’ll do my best. Because it happened like this...”
Join our bold yet hapless hero as he explores lost civilizations, undersea kingdoms, prehistoric jungles and lands beyond imagination. Gasp as he battles the subhuman tribe of the Menkv and escapes the clutches of dreadful monsters! Cheer as he triumphs over impossible odds and brings socialism to the subterranean worlds!

What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise Little Orpheus for its charming story, witty dialogue, and whimsical art style, but overwhelmingly criticize the gameplay as tedious and repetitive walking rather than genuine platforming. Major complaints include frequent bugs requiring restarts, mandatory level replays to unlock collectibles with no story changes, unskippable cutscenes, and a short runtime that still feels padded, making the 100% completion a frustrating time sink rather than rewarding experience.
Just go right. Little Orpheus is a side scroller walking game. Just keep presing ''D'' for the most part. There is some platforming and chase events but nothing much. It is an easy and simple game. It would take you about 3-4 hours to walk all the way to the end. While simple in gameplay the levels are very pretty and well made. As you traverse wild worlds you are being narated by, well, you, Ivan Ivanovich. As you tell the tale of your journey deep deep below. It is a funny story, not one to make you laugh, but still entertaining. The game has some bugs and glitches, mostly during a respawn if you die. I've seen myself get duplicated or respawned below the map. Its a fun game, but if you get it, get it in a sale. The full price is a bit much for what you get.5 found this helpful
Awesome adventure similar to Limbo. Explore alien landscapes and solve puzzles. Avoid deadly robots. Memorable and fun to play. Not too long, about 6-8 hours of gameplay. Nice soundtrack. Worth playing!
3 found this helpful
It's boring. The story has some good moments, at least. I cleared the game in under 5 hours and it still felt too long. In a poor effort to add replay value, there are costumes that can be unlocked by getting collectibles. Though said collectables only appear after you already cleared that level, and I didn't want to play again. Also, the game has some bugs that required restarting the game to fix.3 found this helpful
Review after 100% :
This is one of those games thats okay-ish, not bad but also not great either. These are the things that stand out about this game: + Simple & short cozy game, also very easy to 100% + Funny banter between the only 2 characters in the game + Graphically pleasant scene in some of the area - Looks like platformer puzzle game, but actually more of walking simulator - Stages are very linear, literally just need to the other far edge of the map everytime - Puzzle are non existent in the game - 2 of the stages has eternal deathloop bug as you will be respawned in mid air and die again instantly. (can be fixed by going back to stage selection menu and picking continue on the stage) - Narrative feels lackluster
as the story lack proper gripping conclusion of what happen at all and set up as open ending for a possible sequel (that mostlikely wont happen)
Conclusion Its okay out of 10. If we can give something between upvote or downvote, this game would get that one.3 found this helpful
Orpheus is a visually stunning project with a creative and hilariously funny story that had me chuckling in my chair on several occasions. It reminded me of a Sony exclusive due to its incredibly high production value. For parents, this is a great little title to spend a family afternoon playing with their children. Certain story elements and jokes are intended only for adults, which is fantastic for engaging parents in the experience as much as the kids. The game is split into eight episodes of around 20-25 minutes each, with a longer bonus ninth episode. All episodes end on a cliffhanger, making the experience ideal for families who prefer limited screen time by playing one episode an evening, which also sparks family conversations. Orpheus manages to appeal to both children and adults for different reasons, doing a pretty decent job in the process. The regular Steam price of Little Orpheus is only £4.99, which is fantastic value, making it a must-pick-up for all. Orpheus gets a solid 8/10 from me, and I'm glad I gave it my time.
Reluctant recommendation. If you play for the story, it's fun, with great voice acting and humour. I'd recommend the game for that, despite some awful bugs. But getting 100% achievements is a slog. For one, the collectibles only unlock after finishing a level, which means you have to play each level at least twice. The story and levels don't change, so no replay value outside of the achievements. None of the (many!) cutscenes are skippable. Getting the orbs takes up so much more time than it should. No idea why the devs made those choices. It's inconsiderate of gamers' time.
