It is an extremely short action-adventure side-scroller with some. The story is a basic coping with loss story, nothing new. Music is great, but the rest is just.... Fights are looking complex, but I mostly used fireballs and slides. It was fun at first, then just boring. My main problem is the price. For a 1-1,5 hour long game with no replayability, asking 10€ is too much. The game should be 5€ top. There are free-to-play indie games with similar or longer gameplay. 6/10. Thumbs up because it is a first-time developer's game and to show some support, but I can't really recommend it.

Luctus anchors its sombre psychological narrative within a tightly focused boss-rush structure that keeps the momentum driving forward without unnecessary bloat. Every encounter serves to highlight the weight of ancestral sins whilst demanding precise pattern recognition from the player to navigate the corrupting influence of lost magic effectively. Atmospheric pixel art brings the mournful world of the Ula to life, using a cohesive visual palette that reinforces the feeling of traversing a realm slowly succumbing to decay. Cryptic journals scattered throughout the environment offer fragments of lore that successfully ground the supernatural mystery in genuine, human desperation. Two distinct combat styles provide the mechanical foundation for this journey, allowing for seamless switching between melee and ranged strategies during intense skirmishes. Expending spirit power to trigger a powerful ultimate state or to recover health creates a layer of tactical depth that turns every victory into a earned milestone. Frustration occasionally mounts during specific platforming escape segments that lack adequate checkpoints, forcing arduous retries upon a single mistake. These demandin…

Luctus is a 2D pixel platformer with hand-drawn cutscenes, telling the story of Nora, a fire mage who embarks on a journey to bring her sister back to life. The game creates a melancholic atmosphere, but the story is fairly short — it takes about 1.5 hours to complete. There is not much content: just four bosses, two puzzles, and one escape level. If the puzzles seem difficult, the developer included hints to help you progress. Nora’s main weapons are a fireball for ranged attacks and a fire lasso for melee attacks. She also gains new abilities as you progress in the story. Killing enemies and bosses gives upgrade fragments and potions, but the drop system has a problem. In two playthroughs, I couldnt get enough items for the “Drink 10 potions” achievement because always fewer than ten potions dropped in total. Overall, the game leaves a more positive than negative impression. It’s worth trying on sale, especially if you enjoy short pixel platformers.
