Magician of Fire

[h1]Casual level-based 3D platformer[/h1] Unlike what the store page claims, this is a fairly basic 3D platformer. Story basis is simple and silly: your dog ran away into a cave, so you, fire mage, of course follow afterwards. The cave turns out to be a trap-filled set of platforms hovering over an endless pit. Game's linear paths are guarded by animated skeletons and goblins, both the shooting and whacking kinds. Your character can jump and use two spells (shoot fire bolts and do a short-range area blast). Objective in each level is to survive and get to the goal. Enemies drop gold and experience points (XP) on death, both of which can be used to upgrade stats (like max. health, mana, spell damage etc.) between levels. There's a boss fight every few levels. [h1]About level and game design[/h1] Most levels take a couple of minutes to complete. Like usual, 3D platforming is a tough one to crack, and particularly because of the fied camera angle you can't see what's on the bottom-side of the screen. I found this little gem when playing through my trash games; it is anything but trash. It's a nice platformer with crumbling, moving, and disappearing platforms with enemies and obstacles that you need to avoid or shoot with your fireballs. You can upgraded your mage in between levels for more mana, health, spell power, etc. It's short with about 15 - 20 levels, but some the them were quite challenging for these old bones. I had to replay several levels many times before completing and contemplated quitting, but I found it quite addicting. There are about 3 or 4 boss levels mixed in between the regular levels. If you like platformers, this one is worth a look.

Got this on some ridiculous $.79 sale. Well worth a few bucks at least, but I'll take it at the price I got it. Cutesy graphics and decent learning curve of controls. I like the musical score. That's the strongest part of the game and most advantageous, because you need some good music to listen to while you're sending dozens of red-shirted mage away team members to their deaths. Level design is clean, brutal and unforgiving. Get this game. Get it now.

It feels like a new developers first game on steam and considering that and the price, its good. I think the platforming is made difficult by a 'floaty' character and theres some minor annoying things but for the price, its a good little time killer and quite fun to play. I picked it up for £0.62 and its just going to be my go to kill 20 mins game for the next week or so.
