If you like a game called Pill Baby, then you might like this one. If you don't know what it is, then know both of these games are a smashing, bashing type of game where you are mostly fighting endless hordes of enemies, making for a chaotic, fun battle where you fight all types of gruesome and goofy enemies. The best part of these sorts of games is when you accidentally do some tremendous combat actions just from spamming random buttons, but in all seriousness, it's really fun when you uncover different combats with the wide range of attacks and unique items you can mix in at your arsenal. Sounds cool, right? Thinking of purchasing it? Well, I have to stop you right there. It may not seem like it, but this game is harder than it appears, with how many enemies you're fighting in one go, making it skill-based to knowing when to evade all their attacks; otherwise, it is possible to be stunlock constantly if you aren't careful (much more in higher difficulty). You can play it at the lower difficulty; that's what I ended up doing from normal and still managed to scrape by. Even saying that, I wouldn't say the difficulty is the main problem that could alienate players from playing th…4 found this helpful
This game has BALLS I mean, there definitely were moments, when I would gladly punch developer in the face. But I would do that somewhat respectfully. Make no mistake, this is not your usual "hey, fellow dudes, do you like hollow knight?" soulsey-parry-metro--something game. This is an action game with a BIG emphasis on the "action" part. It's hyperfocused, it's chaotic and it just does not care about modern game tropes. The enemies are out for blood and there are LOTS of enemies. You have a varied and distinctive moveset, but there is no magic "parry everything" or "dodge everything" button. Your only salvation is your mobility and your crowd control instruments. Even the healing itself is somewhat of a combat mechanic, and you have to master it, because you WILL get hurt, and the only way to get your health replenished is to whack the enemies just as hard as they whack you. Is it balanced? Well, not exactly. Is in fun? I am not, by any means, a skilled action player, and I say: YES, it fkng IS. You will get smacked, you will get overwhelmed, and sometimes a single miscalculation will ruin your entire fight. But at the same time, a single well timed action can turn a desperate …3 found this helpful
Really interesting visuals and it is not afraid to be weird at all which I respect. However there are pretty large flaws. Definitely feels like it needs more time in the oven. Introduces way too much too quickly, and the combat gauntlets are just way too chaotic. Feels like I'm playing endgame content on the first level. Needed more iterating through actual playtests. This is not a criticism on the difficulty, but the combat/enemy/encounter design and onboarding. Silksong is difficult but intentional whereas this game is feels very messy and thrown together. Less is more. Edit: I was seeing perf issues but it was actually my controller causing it.1 found this helpful
This game is very cool, not just the gameplay but the art and story rock. Some negative reviews I've seen have compared this game to souls-likes or said that there is no way to become stronger or gain new moves; for the first one, it's closer to a character action game like Devil May Cry than something like Salt & Sanctuary or Dark Souls, and for the second, they just missed the mechanics or expected you to have access right at the start and didn't wait a few minutes to unlock the first "shop". FIA for BOAT 2026!1 found this helpful
