Astral Ascent is a 2D platformer roguelite game set in a modern fantasy world. As one of 4 Heroes with very different personalities, you must escape from The Garden, an astral prison guarded by 12 powerful and vicious bosses, the Zodiacs.

I'm on the fence but I think I have to not recommend. This one hurts, considering some parts of the game remind me of Wizard of Legend, which I thought was fun. Most similar to Skul: The Hero Slayer, which I found lacking. + Great visual artstyle + Bosses have nice move sets + Cool animations + Coop (though given that you want to perfect rooms for rewards, not sure how good of an idea that is) * Meta-progression, lots of passive bonuses to unlock * Lots of handholding in form of tutorial for everything * Cheesy/cringe dialogue * Rewards you more if you perfect rooms, so if you are someone who likes to play tanky builds taking chip damage all the time, tough luck - Confusing hub area - A few small bugs - Just like Skul: The Hero Slayer, you end up going through big open rooms that have a few traps scattered here and there as well as scattered enemies, which for the most part is not really a challenge and just time-consuming, bosses usually are the only part where you could die - Unclear enemy attacks, sometimes there's a red mark, red mark with a delay, or no red mark at all, so you'll have to memorize each attack pattern - No feel of impact, not a single enemy gets st…4 found this helpful
The game is fun and addictive, this is the kind of gem that only indie game development can produce, taking simpler graphics to make something very active, fluid, and dynamic. The character interaction is fun, I look forward each run to what the bosses may say. The spell system has a lot of fun combinations though it's not easy to create specific builds, granted there is a seed selector. There are some enemy attacks that are hard to ever dodge, and challenges for avoiding damage that seem to time out, though the Zodiac challenges are fun without being too difficult. The game appears to have loads of content and options to unlock, even zooming through it quickly. Support these devs.1 found this helpful
In my top 5 Roguelites of all time. I like Hades 1 & 2, Rogue Legacy 2, Dead Cells, and if you like those games, you'll love this one. The developers have absolutely mastered the meta-progression loop making every single run feel worth your time. You are constantly levelling/powering up. 10/10. Highly recommend.
Maybe my bar was set too high by games like hollow knight, dead cells and hades. Ut feels like devs don't care to make the UX less annoying and even fix bugs like littering around user's FS with its own files.
Got the game for Ben Starr, but I was amazed by the journey. There is definitely a lot of love put into making this masterpiece.
