About Metropolis: Lux Obscura

Metropolis Lux Obscura is a unique game with a film noir atmosphere, seductive wanton women, and dirty dangerous secrets. Gameplay is based on a motion comic with a non-linear plot mixed with MATCH3 puzzle fights.

This city is rotten to the core. You can’t even tell night from day in this hell where big money runs everything. And the best way to prove you’re right is with brute force.

Jon Lockhart walked through the prison gates a free man, after spending years imprisoned as the supposed murderer of an old friend. He returned once more to the city where it all started intent on figuring out who it was that framed him for the murder and make them pay in blood for the crime. It'd take some work with the key witness dead, but that just meant he'd have to flush out every rat from hiding.

Old friends and new enemies. Search for the truth, for loyalty and sanity - but all you can find here is redemption, betrayal and death.

This game desperately wants to be Sin City. The art is very close. The "stories" not so much. Probably translation errors. Wish it were longer and some of the mechanics not so frustrating. If you're here for the art though, it is fantastic. The rest is passable.

Metropolis: Lux Obscura, developed and published by Ktulhu Solutions, is one of those rare indie games that dares to combine two wildly different genres—the gritty world of noir storytelling and the methodical logic of match-three puzzle mechanics. It tells the story of Jon Lockhart, a man recently released from prison who returns to the city that betrayed him, searching for answers, revenge, and perhaps a fragment of redemption. The city itself, bathed in perpetual darkness and corruption, becomes a character in its own right—a place where every neon light hides danger and every alleyway whispers secrets. From the moment the opening comic panels flicker onto the screen, the game sets a tone that feels both seductive and suffocating, drawing players into a world of moral decay, betrayal, and violent catharsis. The presentation is arguably the strongest element of Metropolis: Lux Obscura. Styled as an interactive graphic novel, the game is composed of richly illustrated comic book panels that come alive through subtle animations and transitions. The art direction pays direct homage to classic noir comics, using heavy black lines, muted colors, and sharp lighting contrasts to evoke …

Bejeweled with comic book cutscenes. Well drawn, well acted, but super short, though you can waste some time in the repetitive bejeweled parts. It's got 4 different endings, but there's not much replay value.

Not only is the game short, like less than 2 hours long. But the mechanics, skills are really just paint to hide they don't exist. You also have money but cannot use it (reached one ending, and there was no way to use it anywhere.) Like a bad demo. Also the cutscenes are sluggish, and you can either skip them altogether or you need to watch them as they sluggishly move. Obviously these things try to lengthen the time you spend with it, but other than a good idea and nice art, it just falls flat and feels unfinished to put it mildly.

I had really high expectations for the story after reading the reviews. The gameplay, design, and art of this game are beautiful, don’t get me wrong, I really love the game. But the writing is kind of meh, and it feels forced. I can’t really recommend it if you’re looking for a strong story. Other than that, this game is for you.
