Father is gone could have been Lee Myung-se’s debut film, but slipped into a long hiatus instead. After thirty years busy directing unprecedented features in Korea like First Love or Nowhere to Hide, Lee Myung-Se finally brings the lost project back to life through virtual reality.
Set against the backdrop of a family of three moving to the outskirts of Seoul in the 1960s - where the director himself grew up - Father Is Gone questions the place of the father in the traditional Korean culture.
MISSING PICTURES is a 5-part documentary series in VR that brings to life unmade films. Shot in volumetric capture, the filmmakers Abel Ferrara, Tsai Ming-Liang, Catherine Hardwicke, Lee Myung-Se and Naomi Kawase narrate to us some key points of the movie and why it was never made.

11 minute long, purely cinematic 360, mostly animated experience. There is audio in English and maybe other languages (I didn't check). It's strange though because it's set in Korea and the author / director is shown to be Korean, but the animated characters look Caucasian. Also, it's a pretty confusing short story that seems to just reiterate that his dad worked hard, was mostly out of the house, hardly spoke to his kid, & then mysteriously left one day. It's kinda sad actually, in more than one way. Anyways, if your dad left you while getting milk, trigger warning. Some things are universal I suppose.9 found this helpful
Sad story with no interaction. Great storytelling and interesting story, it last ~12min until the credits ends. I liked it, it has a nice message graphics animation and narration. Recommended to anyone wanting a short story, its free so totally worth a run.4 found this helpful

Shot in volumetric capture of the filmmaker Lee Myung Se, which looked pretty good. CONS: - Might have to play with the bindings to setup a trigger to right and left controllers. Short VR experience that tells the plot of unmade movie Father is gone. Cartoony visuals look cheaper than in other Missing Pictures, but some effects and transitions are still impressive. The story and especially characters are a bit weird, maybe it is because of some cultural differences. Works on Reverb G2.1 found this helpful
