Missing Pictures : Naomi Kawase

This is a 14 minute long, purely cinematic 180 experience. It's fully voiced in English, although you can tell they dub over the original (Japanese?). It's a story of a big Japanese lady trying to find love. The odd thing is that this story is an excuse for exposition for the author about their struggle in producing a comedy. In the end, they decide the story is not complete. I thought this cinematic experience was meandering. I guess that was intentional. It also crashed on me about 10 minutes in, which was very annoying. It's free though so I'll give a positive recommendation, but it's more like a sideways recommendation.

"Missing Pictures : Naomi Kawase" is not a game, it's a poorly made VR art exhibition that tells a short and badly written story about an individuals personal challenges and how they approach them... yawn. Boring premise, weak delivery, and of course, not a game. It's misleading and harmful to put things on Steam that aren't games. Steam is not a dumping ground for art school dropouts, it's for games. This is absolutely harmful because it gives indie devs a bad name. This pollution takes up marketing space and visibility. Genuine indie devs who've done the right thing and made real games for people have to compete for visibility with this non-game junk. It makes it harder for gamers to find real, genuinely made interactive games. This has some fairly mediocre graphics that will understandably be a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good (or even a video game). Missing Pictures : Naomi Kawase is a free VR experience about a movie that was never made. It worked on my Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. The most celebrated female filmmaker from Japan revisits a project that she envisioned after her 2015 film Sweet Bean. Oh Debu tells the story of Aya, an over romantic woman very complexed by her weight. Through this story, Naomi Kawase wanted to give herself a challenge trying to make a comedy, far from her naturalist, poetic previous work. Shot in volumetric capture of the filmmaker Naomi Kawase, which looked pretty good. CONS: - Might have to play with the bindings to setup a trigger to right and left controllers. Maybe check this out if you like movies or movie making or are a producer or movie studio exec looking for a project.

Weakest in the Missing Pictures, IMHO. It looks like a bad idea to retell the plot for a comedy - all the jokes are gone, and all that left is the bunch of situations that lead nowhere. And the worst part is that experience crashes right after all the set up. Works on Reverb G2.
