My Inner Darkness Is A Hot Anime Girl! is a 3D turn-based RPG that follows the story of a descendant of a legendary knight who struggles with intrusive thoughts. That is to say, thoughts and recurring memories he would rather not have. No matter how hard he tries to deal with them, he can't seem to deal with them. All hope seems lost until a kind figure from his dreams helps him deal with his thoughts. Of course, this is when trouble starts to arise, a manifestation of his inner darkness, named Kard Sens, appears before him and tries to keep him in line, because without the excess darkness in the MC's heart, she won't be able to maintain her lovely figure.

A short game about making peace with your inner darkness and learning to deal with it. By antropomorphizing it as an anime girl, we see how the shadows in our minds would act if they were a person. And, well, you might learn that the darkest part of your mind is not so bad, it can be even really hot, but you need to deal with it. This game actually has great metaphors that can be good advice in real life, and embodies a lot of stoic philosophy. As a stoic myself, I loved this. This game is so wholesome. THIS GAME IS PEAK!
Where Dab on Darkness! was optimistic and pure in form, this game complicates that narrative. It still goes over all the major themes-- the usage of accessible CBT techniques to better manage unhealthy mind bugaboos. But it also expands on everything, with a protagonist who has experienced specific misfortune within a specific life. There is a wider world with purposeful and indeed purposeless things inside of it. Incidentally, this game can't recapture the original's raw positivity, though it still wears an optimistic outlook on its sleeve. What it does give is far more specific advice to those who might benefit it. The mechanics of the game are largely prefunctory, insofar as they exist to finesse exactly one point (a good point, bear in mind). This is a visual novel which uses an rpg engine for some expanded and arguably cinematic storytelling. When you make a game for a certain kind of person, you alienate others. Back when I first played Dab on Darkness!, High School was a fresh memory and lockdown gave me all too much time to sulk and wallow in certain kinds of bad memories.
