Napoleon in Russia

I played this for more than 10 hours before reviewed. Play system is firm and has a good feel to it. Easy to play, difficult to dominate. AI is good to tough. Solid game with some minor imbalances, but I will and have played it again and again. If its on sale, really consider getting it.

+ Good old fashioned hex game. - Lacks the flavour of Russian battles. Could have been the their American Civil War game in different uniforms. Having just played their Waterloo game, I expected a big battle (eg Borodino), but all there were was some minor actions. If Borodino was too big it could have been several smaller scenarios.

Great little game, no having to 'build your empire' like other games. Straight into troop deployment and battle and it's not always about destroying the enemy. Tactics can win you the game.

I Have all the Hex Wars games and luv them all

When on sale or as part of a package, this game is well worth the outlay because although there may be no Achievements (and if you are looking for them where none need exist, don't buy because you're not enjoying the game, merely medal hunting), there are many battles you can fight between difficulty levels of "Casual" play and "Hard", with "Historical" settings in between on both sides to make each scenario and campaign more interesting and exciting. The new studio Hunted Cow have clearly learned from the dull AI created during the original American Civil War series of games of the last decade, and there are wide challenges across the campaigns with much replay value, even if you have to come back after a ragequit as I have so many times just to see if you can smash the Corsican Upstart, or overthrow that Enemy of the People Tsar Alex. As a Strategos of forty-five years' experience, I highly recommend this excellent historical game.

This is miniatures without the need for large spaces. I enjoys the ease of play and yet the need for well thought out movements.
