The bad feelings started to seep in as soon as you passed the front desk.
The hallways are unnaturally dark and you swear they grow more narrow with each step you take. The hotel creaks as if its corridors contorted ever so slowly, trying to crush you in its innards before you get the chance to notice.
In this "found-footage" horror game you have to navigate the rooms and hallways of the mysterious Narrow Woods Hotel.
Collect keys and items and use them to find your way out. But be careful, as the dreaded feeling of being alone might actually be a comforting thought.

How to play:
General:
-Use the mouse to interact with the environment and navigate through the hotel
-'Left click' to interact/move (used for various things)
-'TAB' to open inventory
-Hold left mouse button to skip cutscenes
In inventory:
-Hover over items for description
-'Left click' item to take out of inventory
With item held:
-'Left click' to use on objects
-'Right click' to put held item back into inventor

The game takes about 40-60 minutes to beat on the first playthrough.
WARNING: Contains stylized depictions of blood/violence

Known issues / troubleshooting:
If windows defender blocks the game from running, click "more info" and select "run anyway". This happens because the game is from an "unknown publisher".
If you're using Wave Link, and the game crashes after the splash screen (probably caused by the rerouting of the audio) go to your Windows sound settings, set your default output to "Wave Link System" and then assign the game's output to "Wave Link System" aswell. If you can't change the audio back to "system audio", rename the narrowwoodshotel.exe to anything you like, then start the game again.
For problems with other audio rerouting programs, a similar solution might apply.

Narrow Woods Hotel is a horror point and click adventure game developed by Hyper Freeze Games, an indie developer located in Germany who is actually the brother of a Youtube guy quite literally named “Freeze Engine”. Other than that, I’m unsure about the guy’s history other than the fact he’s uploaded numerous Gamemaker Devlog’s to pretty solid viewcount before. Truth be told, I'm really unsure how I was able to find this game either, as it mysteriously popped up in my feed for free just like the hotel apparently. It could’ve been Steam Recs, Twitter, Bloody Disgusting or whatever else but what I’ll say is that like previously I’ve been streaming free and/or cheap horror games on Steam for buddies on Spooky Month. Per tradition, I write up small reviews on the games I’ve played and see how I mesh with them; for the person on Saturday I’ve recently streamed this, DON’T FACE UP and half of The Shore (latter half to be finished next saturday). a very unique and interesting horror game i havent seen much like. i like the gameplay and puzzle aspect, but the ending left me a little confused. still some good fun tho1 found this helpful
fun but short horror game that takes an urban legend/ghost story as its premise. The game is at its strongest when you're trying to figure it out on your own, so i strongly recommend going into it blind. the puzzles were more straightforward than i would have liked, but I enjoyed the atmosphere and i found my first playthrough pretty immersive. looking forward to the sequel.

For a free to play game this actually has some really fun gameplay mechanics and quite good storytelling. It’s a relatively short experience but definitely one to check out, especially if you’re a fan retro horror games from the PS1 and PS2 era.
