About NeonCode
NeonCode is a one hour long cyberpunk-retrowave adventure game. It was inspired by classics such as the Blade Runner-movies, Miami Vice, Grim Fandango and the games of Telltale.
This game made as an experiment. I wanted to see, what quality can be achived from free assets. I did not planned to release it for the public, but everyone said: I have to! So, yes there are Eathen with unity logo as an NPC and he have a bar in the game. This is a B game made by one man. If you don't want to buy it, there are public beta versions on the internet.
The game was made by one developer, Zsolt Várady alias fubenalvo, who developed NeonCode in his free time. At first, it was curiosity that drove him to find out what can one do with free Unity assets, but then, a whole world started to unfold and a story was needed to be told…
Although not in the game development itself, but he had some help: The dialogues were written by Zsófia Várady-Páll
The player takes on the role of private detective Craig Williams, an ex-cop who was suspended due to his problems with alcohol. He opened his own PI office in a worn-out apartment in the hope of rebuilding his life. Unfortunately, there aren’t many cases around, and he has to scrape for work…
After a long day, he is on his way to his office when he hears gunshots in the distance. He is the first to arrive to the crime scene, and soon meets his former work partner, ordered by the police to find out what happened. Perhaps this is the chance for Craig to prove himself and get his old job and life back?
NeonCode was inspired by the style of the Blade Runner-movies, Miami Vice, Grim Fandango and the games of Telltale. One can also discover some bits and pieces from Day of the Tentacle and Star Wars!

I'm also on Linux & so I used Proton 5 and it worked great! :3 Love the graphics and the story was nice. I did however find a bug where if you click on a fedora multiple times, it will count up to 5 and give you an instant achievement lol. I think that I didn't pay too much for this, so it's reasonably priced and well worth it. :)4 found this helpful
Eye candy. The gorgeous graphics make up for the so-so plot. It's a bit glitchy but I enjoyed it. Very short.2 found this helpful
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy playing this game. The waypoints are often incorrect. In the laundry quest,
I took the box and put it in the car, then drove away and collected the other boxes. The quest should have been complete, but when I spoke to the staff, they said the job wasn’t done. The waypoint kept pointing back to the place where I had already picked up a box. When I drove back, I couldn’t pick it up again, yet the waypoint still insisted I needed to.
That was the last straw. On the bright side, the noir atmosphere and sound design are great. Otherwise, the game feels unpolished and insufficiently playtested.1 found this helpful
Cool short, Central-europ jank for 1$ it's a steal for the value1 found this helpful
NeonCode is a compact yet evocative indie adventure developed and published by Fubenalvo that places atmosphere and style at the very center of its design. Created as a largely solo project, the game wears its inspirations proudly, drawing heavily from cyberpunk fiction, noir detective stories, and retro-futuristic aesthetics. Rather than attempting to deliver a sprawling open-world experience, NeonCode focuses on telling a concise, self-contained story that unfolds through exploration, mood, and subtle environmental storytelling. The narrative follows a down-on-his-luck private detective whose life has unraveled after personal failures and addiction, setting a classic noir tone from the outset. The case at the heart of the story becomes both a professional obligation and a chance at personal redemption, lending emotional weight to what might otherwise be a straightforward investigation. While the plot is relatively brief, it is framed with enough character and thematic intent to feel purposeful, touching on familiar ideas of regret, perseverance, and moral ambiguity that define the detective genre. The game does not overexplain its story, instead trusting players to absorb meanin…
Full disclosure: I wrote some of the music that appears in the game (the final track in the credits). I genuinely enjoyed my time with this title—at just $1, it’s hard to go wrong if you’re into the cyberpunk vibe. While there’s a bit of polish missing, it’s clear this is a passion project from a single developer. There were genuinely moments where I found myself thinking, "this is really pretty," which is impressive even for an indie game. That said, the gameplay itself is a bit underwhelming. If you're captivated by the visual style and just want to immerse yourself in a cool cyberpunk world for an hour or so, it might be worth a look.
