About Neon Blood

Year 2053, the world as we know it came to an end in a war lost in time. Now, only inequality remains, in the form of Viridis, the great city that encompasses the dangerous Blind City and the luxurious Bright City.
Axel McCoin, once a police detective, will become the key piece to unmask a whole plot of corruption and power that plagues the unstable peace of Viridis.
Experience the stories of the city and its inhabitants, accompanying Axel in his mission to overthrow the established order and demolish the foundations of this corrupt society.
///////////////////////////////////////

// The escaped member of the Viridis police force is extremely dangerous and a warrant is out for his arrest on sight.
Thanks to confidential sources it is known that he is assisted by a group of terrorists consisting of Varya Gagarin (Junkyard), Silver Rayner (Boxer), Basilio Tastiera (hacker)...

/////The Great Basilio thats is able to HACK the VPD and the fourth wall like nothing.
////Listen don't believe any of this, Axel is a liberator fighting for our rights and trying to break down social (and real) barriers and achieve REAL equality between the dangerous Blind City and the filthy rich Bright City.
//In his fight we will accompany him to achieve his goal, as well as to defeat the mysterious but powerful (not to me) Emerald Ruby. The rich girl who is determined to maintain the system that benefits her out of pure selfishness, although we believe there may be an ulterior motive...

Viridis is a living city that tells its own story, as well as keeping its own secrets. The city's inhabitants will be key pieces for detective Axel McCoin to discover how it works, the root of its inequality and how the inhabitants go about their daily lives. With richly detailed environments and hundreds of secrets to learn, players can explore freely and act as they wish as they explore diverse locations, such as the neon city of Hunter Heaven, the futuristic Bright City and the labyrinthine subway tunnels hidden in Viridis.
The city is dangerous, but Axel knows how to defend himself. You can attack, use skills and even objects before unleashing a powerful final attack where you will see the pixel art at its best in this turn-based combat system based on the great games of the genre.
Neon Blood's aesthetics feature a unique blend of 2D and 3D combining the retro style of hand-drawn and animated pixel art with highly detailed 3D environments, all with meticulous lighting that will make walking through the streets of the great Viridis a visual spectacle.
  • Elaborate and deep story with a cyberpunk theme combined with a turn-based combat style like old RPG's with strong strategy factor
  • Two different realities of the two cities with complete 2.5D aesthetic, merging cyberpunk and sci-fi
  • A big macropolis full of secrets to be solved with a complete dialogue-based detective system
  • A lot of neons

Neon Blood is a noir cyberpunk RPG developed by ChaoticBrain Studios and published by Meridiem Games and Astrolabe Games, and it immediately distinguishes itself through its hybrid visual style—2.5D environments populated by expressive pixel-art characters. Set in the twin-city society of Viridis, where the privileged Upper City controls dwindling resources while the Lower City struggles to survive beneath its shadow, the game frames its narrative around economic inequality, systemic control, and the growing spark of revolution. Players step into the role of Axel McCoy, a determined detective whose pursuit of truth leads him into conspiracies, moral compromise, and ideological conflict. Rather than relying solely on cyberpunk tropes like neon signs and dystopian pollution, the game explores how systems of power shape identity, loyalty, and personal responsibility. Moment-to-moment gameplay blends narrative exploration, investigative dialogue, and RPG progression with occasional combat encounters and environmental navigation. The world design encourages deliberate traversal—moving through alleys, markets, industrial corridors, and neon-drenched plazas to meet informants, gather clu…

I enjoyed the concept, the soul, the story it had to say. tldr: what I found in this game was extreme promise. Personally, I saw how "more" in every carefully placed aspect of this game could really bring forth this world I would love to explore in future installments, or even an expanded release of this story! I wanted more of everything. In more detail (possible spoilers): At 8 hours, this game entertained me with its world lore and scattered homages, its story and its beautiful soundtrack. What surprised me, was some amazing ideas it brought forth, a unique visual style blend of the 2d pixel art in a depth environment and some really fun action sequences. Clearly this is a passion project, I hope the studio releases that sequel it hints towards, I will defenitely give it a go and see all the aspects of this game fleshed out, and in more volume and perhaps some vocal grunts and hums next time ;) What I loved: - Those QTE moments. I loved everything about them. Didn't mind failing them so I could have a better look at the action. Extra cudos on the sound design during those moments. I could go for more length to really make me work for it. - The Soundtrack. Builds the game atm…

While the premise of the game is good, controls and collision detection are buggy. Quite often you'll find yourself stuck around objects like the chairs and the computers in the police station. Quite often you'll find yourself lost, and not know where to navigate to, or who else to talk to in the right order to unlock further dialogue. It makes for a frustrating play. Thankfully there are two walkthroughs in the Steam community page for this game. Only pick this up if on sale, and you're ready for some SERIOUS frustration.

10/10 graphics, some of the most artful and best graphics I have seen and the combat system is alright, not very interesting, but if you like old-school turnbased rpgs it is fine and i do like it. It is WAY too linear, i would prefer it if it was more like an rpg with side quests and so on. But it is an enjoyable game. Not very long and has no replay value, but it is a fun world, good story. I like the game, fantastic graphics though, really innovative and beautiful.

Unfortunately game is too slow and boring... UI not adapted correctly for ultra wide and super ultrawide screens Save points too far from one another I got stuck after dialog and cannot do anything. Thus I had to restart which throws me 10 min back. The only good thing about the game is how city and streets looks. Everything else is either mediocre or bad. The short cartoon style cutscene was also good. Overall this is very linear and simple game. But even for detective genre players, which should be the target audience, game may fall short. 4/10. Cannot recommend, even for sale. The only reason I see people buy this game after this and other mixed reviews is just to support small indie developers and designer, hoping they are not giving up and next game will be way better.
