I feel bad saying this, because I enjoyed the world ambience and gameplay just fine. But... The writing is done in that sort of way that feels like it doesn't trust the end user to process anything for themselves; they spend time explaining everything on both sides of any decision, and sometimes it feels like they only included some additional quirks in order to pretend towards a more morally complicated decision. Some of the writing just smacks of "I know writers who use subtext and they're cowards," even for a cyberpunk game. My bigger issue than that is that the dialogue is pretty extensive, and in the interest of a thorough run, you'll end up standing in front of a character for a solid minute or two waiting for the comms discussion to end so you can interact with the NPC you're loitering beside. Really slams the brakes for any player who actually wants to do the things the game purports to want them to.
Oh, I remember this one... and I can't believe I spent money on it How is this illiterate trash not getting dragged through the mud for how bad the dialogue writing and voice-acting are?! This is why I don't respect the opinions of other gamers when it comes to writing
I wanna prefice this by saying that I usually don't enjoy chill games where you have to do mundane tasks and chill, but I dared myself to finish it despite it being a grueling task. Over the span of a year, playing on and off, I found myself quite dissapointed by the lack of agency the game provides, even though it clearly wants to be an open world, adventurous experience. You basically follow orders and sometimes make moral decisions that don't really impact the game as much as you'd expect, while progressing at a snail's pace, because your running speed feels like walking. There's a lot of confussing elements on screen that make it very dissorienting to collect stuff, and most stuff you collect serves no purpose. You can't customize your character with the clothing you buy, and drugs are virtually useless. You don't need to eat or drink despite there being such options, and the game won't let you do anything until you've listened to the entire conversation of whichever characters are speaking to you through the telecom, which can take a really long time, and sometimes feels like filler commentary. The game's main focus is the story, which is also dissapointing because morality…
I really enjoyed this game. it is kinda cozy just delivering packages and watching the world unfold.
One of the most underrated games I’ve ever played I almost never write Steam reviews, but after finishing Cloudpunk, I genuinely felt like I needed to write one. I originally discovered Cloudpunk because I saw Nivalis Nights and thought the idea of living and running a business in a cyberpunk city looked incredible. Then I found out Cloudpunk was set in the same city, saw it on sale, and decided to give it a shot. I’m extremely glad I did. What makes Cloudpunk special is difficult to explain because, mechanically, it sounds like a simple game. You’re a delivery driver. You fly around the city, deliver packages, meet people, and slowly uncover the story of Nivalis. But somewhere along the way, I stopped feeling like I was playing a delivery game and started feeling like I was actually living in the city. I spent almost 16 hours completing the story, and a significant amount of that time was just me exploring, walking around in first person, parking my HOVA somewhere with a beautiful view, and taking in the atmosphere. Nivalis feels absolutely enormous despite Cloudpunk being a relatively small game. The rain, neon lights, music, vertical architecture, traffic, adve…
The gameplay loop makes up for the clunky dialog and down right terrible voice acting. The protagonist in particular feels like she is reading from a script verbatim, and when there is some sort of emotion its forced at best.
