Northern Tale 5: Revival

I’ve played every Northern Tale game (1–4) and enjoyed them immensely. They’re simple time-management strategy games, but they have a charm that hooked me. The familiar art style, characters, and progression always made me want to push for 3-stars and complete every achievement. Northern Tale 5, however, feels noticeably different. First off, is it Northern "Tale" or Northern "Tales". The other 4 say "Tale" and 6 says "Tales" with 5 saying "Tale" on here but "Tales" in-game. Not a big deal but confusing. Didn't know 6 existed until I found it by accident. Also, the art style changed, the characters don’t look or feel like the ones I’ve come to know through the series, and while that alone isn’t a dealbreaker, it makes the game feel disconnected from its predecessors. It’s still playable, still functional, but it lacks some of the atmosphere and characters that made the earlier titles so memorable. My biggest frustration though, admittedly as a completionist, is the achievements. I finished the campaign and the bonus level only to find out later that the additional 6 extra levels required to complete the “find all hidden items” achievement exist only in the Collector’s Edition… wh…

This game has stopped working for me. It used to work. Now it just starts and disappears in the background/on the side. It is nowhere, but the computer thinks it is running. If anyone has advice, please tell me!

I've been a fan of the Northern Tale series for a while, and was excited for a new entry. However, I can't recommend this entry unless you've played all of the others before and still want more. The new mechanic in this one is a hidden object game. However it is a poor addition. In every level there are three to five things that you have to collect, but the game doesn't tell you what they are. So, you have to look up a guide. As soon as you click once, the level starts so you have to be quick about finding all the objects. Another related issue with this game is the uneven, and sometimes unfair difficulty. Many levels are fair and pretty easy, but several are unfair and require exactly perfect execution. For example, I spent about 3 hours on level 26 and missed it by less than 5 seconds nearly every time. When the margin is that short, having the hidden objects taking up even a few seconds of the level ruins the experience. After finding all hidden objects, the in-game achievement didn't trigger. There is a bonus level, but it triggered before I got all the stars, and nothing else happened after I got them all. It reuses music and assets from the previous games, which is…

One of my favorite game series. Can also be played on Linux.

It is challenging but fun. It is fast paced, but you can control the complexity. It helps distract me from stresses in my everyday life. Each level is short enough to do at a sitting while getting everything else done in my life. Fun!
