Not Tonight 2

You could play another video game that looked better. You could play another video game that had better gameplay; there are many. But you couldn't really play another video game that was as important as this one. That's right: Not Tonight 2 is among the most important video games you could play today, June 30, 2026. What naysayers would construe as hyperbole I would simply say: you either play Not Tonight 2 now for its biting satire, or you play it in the future when its satire become historical fact. In a post-modern world where god is dead and truth is whatever you feel like, there's not much room for satire. But its a good thing that PanicBarn created this game over three years ago. Somehow, they included an unbelievable setting where the White House becomes an entertainment venue, strung up with colored lights and blaring loud music. And then, a funny thing happened: reality. Two weeks ago, the White House erected a giant cage to hang colored lights and loudspeakers to blare loud music to become the nation's pre-eminent entertainment venue by hosting UFC Freedom 250 on its South Lawn. I didn't watch it, so I can't say if a guy got kicked in the balls at the Whtie House, but …

Boring plot and ugly-as-♥♥♥♥ portraits. Stale, outdated, narrow-minded dialogue with inconsistent progression. It takes the excellent *Not Tonight* formula and bogs it down with nuisance activities meant to add “nuance,” when they are really just busywork. A massive downgrade from the first game. The moment I saw the anime-ified character portraits, I knew this ♥♥♥♥ was going to be ass. The gameplay is still solid-ish, but only because 90% of it is based on the first game’s gameplay loop. I really wanted another addition to one of my favorite game formats, yet this ended up being a sad, neo-political dumpster fire that never needed to happen. I would rather replay the first game and see Sharen again.

Great game if you like ID-checking, detail-oriented work for fun. :) Love the story and the art. I think the load function works a lot better in this one than the first Not Tonight. I do have a couple issues with the game though. Sometimes the new mechanics they put in to spice things up aren't really explained well enough, like with the musical tickets, I thought I had to hit every note and not pass it up even when it spawned on the note. It's a lot easier to do when you know you can just wait for it to loop back around to hit the note. I also think sometimes the MapO story grades were BS, like they put some dialog choices in there and if you don't just know what they want (i.e., tell jokes), then you end up with a worse playthrough or end up redoing stuff. Sometimes it was obvious, but other times it really frustrated me. Overall though, really enjoyed the game.

not great, mostly annoying

Takes the gameplay of the original and expands on it in good ways. The humor is a little on the nose but apt giving the current political climate. It's very obvious in these reviews that the people being made fun of don't like being made fun of, but, well, they've earned it. Highly recommend.

This game's premise is so interesting yet falls flat on quite literally every single gameplay and story element. Being set in a (not so distant) political hellscape in America, one would imagine there being an abundance of plot to be told and laid out. Not Tonight 2 manages to have a mediocre story, forgettable characters, and a gameplay loop that slowly stops making sense. I had to watch videos after quitting to see if any part of the story was salvageable, and it wasn't. Politically, this game should be jampacked with references, ideology, and intrigue, I understand that the main characters may be lay people, but the game literally starts with one of the gang being kidnapped for protesting. Yet, the entire game ignores this except to set up the baddies as evil. Not evil in a "wow, I could see how these people came into power," but more of a "wow, they really didn't want to spend a single moment more writing this game." I mean for god's sake, a city where the renaissance fair takes over? Seriously? Furthermore, the gameplay is just Papers Please but worse. What kind of person cares what color their poutine is?
