Novaxandria Volume 01

This is a very good game that shows a lot of promise, I absolutely love the art style. I cant wait to see what else the devs have in store.

"Novaxandria Volume 01" is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. combat element takes a bit to learn but a nice story nonetheless

Novaxandria Volume 01 is an interesting mix of visual novel storytelling and turn based strategy, and I liked how naturally the two parts fit together. I play as Iris, a young girl living in an orphanage who starts noticing the bullying and darker problems happening around her. The story gradually turns that situation into something much larger, and I enjoyed following Iris as she finds friends who are willing to stand beside her. The visual novel side gives the game most of its emotional weight. There are plenty of conversations and illustrated scenes, and I liked getting to know the characters before being asked to control them in battle. Iris and her friends feel more important because I understand their personalities and relationships outside of combat. The story also has a serious tone underneath the cute art style, which gives the setting more depth. The turn based battles are where the game becomes much more interesting mechanically. The units are designed like chess pieces, with different movement patterns, weapons and skills. Love the art style. Characters are cute with unique personalities. The game is mainly a visual novel and the mini strategy game is more like a bonus feature but it's still pretty fun. Looks like this is the first chapter of a long story. I'm looking forward to new chapters.
