About Ope

Details

Ôpe is a 3D platforming game in which you play as a little hero named Bô. His quest will lead him through enchanted forest and temples where he’ll need to deliver shamans from corruption before the sun sets forever.

Environments

This game has 10 playable levels in which you’ll discover forest and temple environments. Forets are more 3D-platforming-oriented and the temples are puzzle-oriented.

Skills

Throughout the adventure, you’ll learn many skills to help you during your quest such as dashing through walls, push rocks, double-jump and even transform your character in a little sphere to access new opportunities.

Production

This original title was developed in 15 weeks by the class of 2018-2019 of Campus ADN, a public video game college in downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The students worked in two teams to make the games Blank and Ôpe. Each game was created by about 30 students in total from Animation, Level Design and Modeling programs during their third semester under the supervision of professionals from the industry.

Simple, fun and enjoyable. Can be a little rough with some clunky controls but the game has really nice graphics and is free.

"Ope" is a student project self-published on Steam Direct. It's from Campus ADN in Quebec. Student projects might look better than amateur shovelware, but they aren't real games. This is just a glorified homework assignment. It lacks the depth and value you get from professionally developed product because it was made for a grade, not for players. Schools, colleges and universities shouldn't be using Steam to show off student projects. It might be fine for the school's marketing, but it clutters the Steam store with pollution... we have to sort past all these short student tech demos just so we can find real, full games from professional developers. This is a case of a game dev college putting its own interests before the interests of gamers. The students made a reasonable looking (but totally janky) Sonic 3D clone where you control a little... thing... that can do 3D platforming and spin around in a ball for whatever reason. Again, heck, a free Sonic clone, if well made, might be quite popular on Steam, but once more we have a student project that's incomplete, abandoned and unmaintained because the students got their grades and walked away. And make no mistake, this is a bug…

Buggy AF to a point it finally broke the game when asked to move a damn stone with "Y" it didn't work at all and were unable to progress. Tried keyboard and these weirdo french c*nts must have the weirdest controls ever cuz everything was reversed and other than movements nothing else worked. Also very clunky movement and horrible combat. Could have been a semi-acceptable toddler platformer to keep for my nephews but ended up being a cancer one instead so I recommend to stay away from this at all costs.

as a notable roblox lover, this game gave me roblox vibes in the best way possible! what started as a surprising little journey quickly became something I didn’t know I needed. it felt like stumbling upon a diamond hidden in plain sight. ope is the kind of game you instantly fall in love with. the story is good, the gameplay is fun, and the puzzles are never too much. i noticed a few bugs, but none that really compromised the experience. and the best part? it’s completely free to play. i loved ope. what a truly hidden gem. i’m so glad I found it.

Pros: (Other Than Free) - Charming characters and the world is whimsical & beautiful! - Level/story progression has a fluid flow to it. There are 10 chapters. - The soundtrack is calming. A game to pass the time or de-stress mindlessly. - The controls are straight to the point. Perfect for any age, but great for young ones new to video games. Cons: (A Bit Buggy) - When the shamans are freed (your main goal), they show you how to learn a certain skill. BUT, they are stuck running in place instead of where they need to go and you kind of have to press all the buttons to figure out which one activates the skill that they never end up showing you. It doesn't affect game progression though. I highly recommend for a 4-6 hr casual play-through despite the cons. Very cute & simple puzzle-like game for free.
